The most surprising (yet none of the above may be surprising for Montesinos) is the relationship that had the National Intelligence Service (SIN) of Montesinos with former officers and employees of the DINA (National Intelligence Directorate) of Pinochet. These, as stated above, developed sarin (a deadly gas that emerged in Nazi Germany and was used for an attack in Tokyo in 1995) with the help of Chilean biochemist Eugenio Berrios Sagredo, apparently with the aim of using it in the case of a war against Peru and Argentina and also in the framework of Operation Condor. The program of development of this gas and other chemical weapons was called Project Andrea.
According to experts consulted by The Republic , the victim exposed to sarin died suddenly of a cardiac arrest can be attributed to a heart condition or suffocation. Therefore, the use of this gas in an attack can only be tested by people involved in the murder. Even the existence of this project has been confirmed, according to The Republic , by former CIA agent Michael Townley, who offered his house in the Chilean capital for Berrios worked on refining the substance. Townley now lives in the United States under the witness protection program to testify about the murder, car bombing of former Chilean Foreign Minister Orlando Letelier in Washington committed in 1976. In his statement, Townley said the plan was to assassinate him sprayed sarin gas on his pillow, which was not possible. After Pinochet's departure from power, Berrios Chile escaped just as he was subpoenaed to testify about the death of Letelier, probably helped by DINA agents in order to silence him. In fact, during his self-imposed exile in Uruguay was protected by these and by Uruguayan agents, but found murdered in 1993, found by fishermen in the area.
The possible relationship with Peruvian military Berrios (and therefore with Montesinos) could be discussed if not for statements by both a drug trafficker in prison in Lima as the Berrios family's lawyer, Thomas Ehrenfeld. This, in an interview with The Republic , said that shortly before traveling to Uruguay, Berrios was visited by some unidentified persons while 'it is said that they were Peruvian generals who offered him much money to go to work with them. He offered to pay for his services in Peru, to develop the sarin gas. " This has also been ratified by a witness at the trial that followed in the 6th Criminal Court of Santiago de Chile, in whose offices, according to counsel, are stored in a safe statements about the contacts of Berrios with Peruvian military.
As an example of the magnitude that could have had this kind of practice, some time ago, many Chilean newspapers reported the suspect was taken into the death of former president Eduardo Frei (who ruled Chile from 1964 to 1970 and father of Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle) in January 1982. Already at the time suspected it might have been killed but not sarin gas, but with another bacterial agent. In November 1981, was admitted to a clinic to undergo surgery for a herniated stomach. Although the operation was a success, days later he was diagnosed with an infection by a strange virus, later identified as the proteus Providence , against which there were no drugs.
True or not, it seems that all versions suggest that Berrios knew much more than necessary. His assassination in Uruguay was never resolved (although seven officers accused of the Chilean Army) and is likely to be carried to the grave many state secrets that could help solve numerous murders, both inside and outside Chile. Also, contacts between Berrios and INS are almost certain, hence it plausible to use by Peruvian intelligence between 1990 and 2000 lethal gas in unexplained deaths. It is not just from the death of Gustavo Mohme Llona, but also many others. From now on, all these should be clarified and this is not only Peru but also effective investigations require the participation of former soldiers and policemen who participated in the crimes. By the way, and Montesinos, "talk?
