Bremer denounces violent protests
More details ...
Some new Bremerisms ...

Bremer announced he was creating
three agencies to better shape
security policies appropriate for the
country. The new agencies are: the
ministry of defense, the Iraqi
National Intelligence Service and
the Ministerial Committee for
National Security.

...

Al-Sadr also announced his active
support for two of Israel's biggest
enemies -- the Palestinian Islamic
group Hamas and Lebanon-based
Hezbollah -- during a sermon
Friday.

...

Iraqi Police Col. Kamal told CNN demonstrators had come from all
over the country to protest for the release of Mustafa al-Yaqoubi, Sadr's
deputy, who they believe has been arrested by coalition forces -- a claim
denied by the coalition.

Sunday's demonstration, he said, began peacefully, but later became
violent when the protesters attacked the Spanish forces. Several
demonstrators were injured, and the Spanish military is still struggling
to control the situation, he said.

3. Yeah, he's fucked. You have to wonder if he knows it yet?
He stills seems to be making "I'm in control" noises.

Isn't that how Saddam set up his secret police? I heard somewhere that the Baathists had three police forces that acted as a check against any one of them being powerful enough to be a threat to Saddam.

I'm sorry I don't have a link...

4. I assume this is a belated attempt to get the
Baathist security apparatus back, but most likely at this
point that will not work, they will just turn on us at a
suitable time, we have nothing to offer now and it is much
too late to fake it.

"Iraqi Police Col. Kamal told CNN demonstrators had come from all over the country to protest for the release of Mustafa al-Yaqoubi, Sadr's deputy, who they believe has been arrested by coalition forces -- a claim denied by the coalition."

They must think that Iraqis have the IQ of their Repub base....

"Baghdad, Iraq-AP -- The U-S-led coalition confirms that it has detained a senior aide to an anti-American Muslim cleric.
Thousands of supporters of the cleric staged violent protests today in Baghdad and Najaf (NAH'-jahf) because of the detention.
In Najaf, at least 14 Iraqis and four Salvadoran troops died after gunfire broke out.
Residents say coalition troops detained the aide at his home early yesterday in Najaf.

6. Naomi Klein has had the best reporting on Bremer and his trickery

Bremer has destroyed my country

Even the pro-US manager of Iraq's Pepsi plant feels betrayed by an occupation which has spawned fear, hatred and chaos

Naomi Klein in Baghdad

Saturday April 3, 2004

The Guardian

---snip---

The US occupation chief, Paul Bremer, hasn't started wearing a hijab yet, and is instead tackling the rise of anti-Americanism with his usual foresight. Baghdad is blanketed with inept psy-ops organs like Baghdad Now, filled with fawning articles about how Americans are teaching Iraqis about press freedom. "I never thought before that the coalition could do a great thing for the Iraqi people," one trainee is quoted as saying. "Now I can see it on my eyes that they are doing good things for my country and the accomplishment they made. I wish my people can see that, the way I see it."

---snip---

The US occupation authority has also found a sneaky way to maintain control over Iraq's armed forces. Bremer has issued an executive order stating that even after the interim Iraqi government has been established, the Iraqi army will answer to US commander Lt General Ricardo Sanchez. In order to pull this off, Washington is relying on a legalistic reading of a clause in UN security council resolution 1511, which puts US forces in charge of Iraq's security until "the completion of the political process" in Iraq. Since the "political process" in Iraq is never-ending, so it seems is US military control.

7. These "violent protests" could be start of civil war --
Edited on Sun Apr-04-04 11:29 AM by DeepModem Mom
According to a British reporter, David Chaiter in Baghdad, the presence of armed militants in these protests is a new and very dangerous development. He said the protest was a "gunfight."

10. I am still waiting patiently for Bremer's
accounting of all the lost money which his the news last year. Recall the scandal of the $4.2 billion which we pay for this honorable war each month. The Christian Aid Society discovered that abot $2 billion per month was going down a rat hole.

Bremer announced that there was no "rat hole", and he would account for every dollar spent. The CPA was going to account for the spending on a Web Site, To Come.

So far, I have been waiting but have not seen anything.

This man, George Bush's cousin, is a loser.
