Obama Will Speak at Milwaukee’s Laborfest (Labor Day) in Company of Trumka, Solis

Source: Milwaukee Area Labor Council AFL-CIO

The president of the United States – along with his secretary of labor and the president of the national AFL-CIO -- will be the special Labor Day guests at Milwaukee’s Laborfest.

Barack Obama, after a motorcade through Milwaukee that Monday, September 6, will give a speech to working families and the general public in the early afternoon of the traditional free festival organized for the community every year by the Milwaukee Area Labor Council, AFL-CIO.

The seating around Miller Stage on the Summerfest (Maier Festival Park) grounds will require a special presidential ticket. These are being distributed by union affiliates of the council to their members and working families. However, as many Milwaukeeans know, the arrangement at Laborfest allows the general public to see and hear the speakers at Miller Stage from around the grounds.

The text of the president’s speech has not been released but it will deal with the economy and jobs -- key issues for the working community, noted the event’s lead organizer, the council’s chief operating officer, Sheila D. Cochran.

2. After all he's done to screw over future unionization and current unions,
he should be too ashamed to show up. I hope the average union members there give him some hearty shit for his weakness.

5. This union member is damn happy with President Obama

Solis. NLRB is working again after the W standstill. When the national office of the Chamber of Commerce raises the muck they have about a former SEIU lawyer now on NLRB, union members have to love it. Jordan Barab (former AFSCME safety director) #2 in OSHA. Big new Money for inspectors in labor to keep US safe. New long overdue rules on mines, cranes, dust, etc.

EFCA was the fault of Lincoln. Remember labor spent $10 million to defeat her. The Clinton machine pulled some nasty tricks to get her past the primary. Remember Clinton? China wide open trade and NAFTA.

Win the midterms. Build on mistakes made in the first year. Drop this Korea trade deal. Make sure new green energy is made in the USA.

OS (pretty much the vocal voice of labor on the DU)

10. So do we elect an R in two years expecting better?

I don't see anybody getting ready to run against Obama. Hilary might trade places with Biden on the 2012 ticket as mentioned on Thom Hartmann. We already know how Clinton treated labor.

I think the auto bailout was better than you give it credit. Was it the President's fault the US consumers bought imports in huge numbers? The UAW does now own a share of Chrysler & GM. A one million workers total kept a job in already bad times.

The alternative of union members not voting for D's in great numbers in Nov. would be disastrous.

14. I just don't see anybody doing better than Obama with a NO party and moderates in Congress

I am happy with Obama overall. Is there a better candidate for labor in 2012?

I'd love to see Ben Nelson retire. But that means Nebraska will get a much more far right Senator. So I'll vote for Ben too.
