Fox 5GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - A Gwinnett County boy who was severely burned while playing with fire and gasoline will soon be able to get a special medical treatment that had been blocked by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Alfred Real's family said they were overjoyed Tuesday by the FDA's recent decision to allow doctors to move forward with special medical treatment, which they said was vital to the child's recovery.
"We got the news about two o'clock yesterday afternoon that they had reversed their decision. We were just ecstatic," said Real's aunt, Endsley Real.

The FDA initially denied doctors' request to use a cultured skin procedure used to treat Alfred's severe burns. The procedure uses a patient's own healthy skin to grow more in a lab.
"It means a shorter recovery time, with a greater chance for success. It means they can get his body covered with skin in a much quicker time," said Real.
