Rand Paul to long term jobless: Just go back to work
Source: Lexington Herald-Leader

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul on Friday urged Americans who have been unemployed for many months to consider returning to the workforce in less desirable jobs rather than continue relying on government unemployment assistance.

"In Europe, they give about a year of unemployment. We're up to two years now in America," Paul said on Sue Wylie’s WVLK-AM 590 radio program.

"As bad as it sounds, ultimately we do have to sometimes accept a wage that's less than we had at our previous job in order to get back to work and allow the economy to get started again," Paul said. "Nobody likes that, but it may be one of the tough love things that has to happen."

and happy to just have a job. I think many have already done what Rand wants them to do. I also know 2 who are not looking for jobs and are collecting unemployment for however long they can. Some abuse the system, some don't.

12. Being disabled in the 70's and 80's often you had no choice but to run your
unemployment benefits out. One of the biggest problems I had looking for a job was the under/over qualified BS used by businesses then to deny people jobs. I had a friend that had a BA in engineering who had worked 10 years for Baker/Perkins until they left the country, after getting the good old we can't afford you excuse from every machine factory, he decided to use his short order cook experience to get a job as a short order cook, he was also turned down by them for being over qualified.

Talk about being out of touch with whats going on, good old Rand should pick up a paper and read that businesses are now using long term unemployment as a reason to avoid hiring people who need work. Stupid is as stupid does.

41. Rand Paul
Rand Paul is guilty of having feel superiority, lacks the ability to have empathy, and engages in contempt of unemployed people without perform a detailed investigation of knowing why people are unemployed and the root causes of unemployment. I would call Rand Paul a selfish man who should not represent the people in Kentucky unless he learns to become introspective and work on learning on empathy and compassion.

I would state that he has no solution to the nation's problem and that people like Rand Paul are responsible from driving this nation to the recession. I also would state that Rand Paul worships the God of Capitalism and therefore, is blind follower of capitalistic system that have wrecked havoc on this country. He lacks the ability to question whether the market itself is fallable.

This is what the Dems need to do when Kentucky and pick up a seat in Congress.

4. Note to Medicare and Medicaid. cc Rand Paul
Seeing as how Doctor Paul has stated:

"ultimately we do have to sometimes accept a wage that's less than we had at our previous job in order to get back to work and allow the economy to get started again"

Please cut all further payments to Dr. Paul's practice in half to get the economy started again.

Thank you.

Someone from the national eye doctor accrediting panel (this guy's an optician, right?) went to Rand Paul's office, whacked him upside the head with a board and told him "you can't make up your own certification, you stupid shit!"

Unfortunately, the 4x12 they used to do it with knocked a screw loose, and now he's a Libertarian. He was normal before.

51. No - lie.
I'm apparently too old (in my early 50s), too experienced, and overly educated. Employers are not supposed to use age as a qualifier and cannot ask the question - but they can easily figure it out by looking at employment and/or education history. They should not use 'too experienced' or 'too educated' as a qualifier, but do on a regular basis. Sometimes they're even honest about it.

If I am told I should omit information to get around those things, I'm being told to lie on my resume. Not embellish.

San Luis Obispo, CA, the TV interviewed one of the police Lieutenant who had participated in the raid, during which all of the homeless people's possessions were taken. The Lieutenant said, "Why don't they just buy a house like everyone else?"

The TV reporter looked dumbstruck. The cop just looked dumb.

32. If there are any jobs to be had at a lower wage
they aren't going to hire a 45 or 50 year old with a degree and 20 years of experience as an engineer or a paralegal. My local K-Mart is not going to hire someone for $9 an hour who used to earn $25 dollars an hour as a technician. The 22 year old manager at the Fazoli’s restaurant is going to hire me, with my incipient arthritis and reading glasses and slow moving butt? He won’t,he can’t. It is better for business to have a young, sprightly, cheap teen-ager taking orders or cooking.

I love it when people who don’t have to go out and find a job say this kind of crap, “just take any kind of job, at least you’ll be working.” They have never run a business and they have never been in the situation where they would gladly take “just any kind of job.”

"In Europe, they give about a year of unemployment. We're up to two years now in America,"

I don’t know how that is relevant. In Europe, the unemployed don’t have to worry about health care and they have a social safety net that has pretty much eliminated homelessness and malnutrition. If the long-term unemployed here knew what kind of benefits are available to the unemployed in Europe, I think there might be riots in the streets here.

34. Fuck Rand Paul
I think that what needs to happen is we (us) need to come up with a plan to start or find away to inluence small manufacturing type companies to start hiring the homeless military, the experienced workers and start channeling that experience into creating products for the U.S in the U.S.

I know this is easier said than done.

So we have a problem and we need to create solutions ourselves. Big Business is not going to do it, the government isn't going to do it. We need to do it.

What if the DU community started thinking along these lines? What ideas can we generate here, how can we get our DU members who are looking into ventures that will create this work?

What is it that the WWII Vets and their generation did that allowed them to create new businesses or grow existing businesses that we are not doing?

I could go on but what say each of you? Can we do something like this? I think we can, I know we can......

He was a very RW Minister in the Thatcher government, who exhorted unemployed people to emulate his late father during the Depression of the 1930s, who 'got on his bike' to look for work. and not something to be lived off of? that's their main "rationale" against the min wage: the others are 1) drawing parallel lines with a curve through it and yelling "QED!" and 2) arguing that laborers have a right to sell their labor for $3/day (yes they actually say that)

usually they eschew argument for undeserved superciliousness, smug mockery at non-Randroids' "mysticism," and screaming about the USSR, especially during the period 1930-53

doesn't this idiot know that EVERYONE who wants a job already thought of that? trouble is, nope, we were thinking of hiring a delivery boy with a bike, not a middle aged man with an RV (for anyone who ever saw "lost in america")

if you had a REALLY good job, you're unlikely to be hired for a crummy one, who would want you being depressed and miserable or even being perky and telling everybody how you know better how to do things?

it just doesn't work

maybe once in awhile if you're a mommy out of the job market for years you can get a shitty job in retail since you can't get your real job back but for most of the people who say they can't get a job...they're not kidding...they CAN'T get a job
