President Obama: Republicans blocking progress in Congress (Weekly Address)
Source: Associated Press

President Barack Obama accused Republicans on Saturday of blocking legislation that would boost the nation's economic recovery and lift a $75 million cap on what oil companies must pay to families and small businesses affected by an oil spill.

Obama said the stalled Senate bill would extend unemployment benefits to workers without jobs and a tax credit for first-time homebuyers. He also said the legislation would save thousands of jobs across the country.

"Unfortunately, the Republican leadership in the Senate won't even allow this legislation to come up for a vote," the president said in his weekly radio and Internet address. "And if this obstruction continues, unemployed Americans will see their benefits stop. Teachers and firefighters will lose their jobs. Families will pay more for their first home."

Republicans, Obama said, are hurting the country and the economy by refusing to let the legislation move forward. He said the bill meant to hasten the economy recovery and lift the $75 million oil spill limit deserved a vote.

Weekly Address: Republicans Blocking Progress
http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/06/19/weekly-address-republicans-blocking-progress
The President calls on Republicans in Congress to put scoring political points aside, and instead to focus on solving the problems facing the nation. At the time of this address, the Republican leadership is blocking progress on a bill to boost the economy, retain jobs for teachers and cops, and help people buy their first home; another bill which would hold oil companies accountable for any disasters they cause by removing the current $75 million liability cap; and 136 highly qualified men and women who have been nominated to government positions.

1. Good. He needs to call them on it in public forums....
...no more attempts to mollify the right. Demonize them as that's what they deserve. Show how their actions are hurting the "small people".

3. Finally!
Obama has finally realized that the reFugniCONS are not interested in bi-partisanship.
They have only one agenda on their pointy little tea bagger minds...to stop ANYTHING from getting done
and then blaming Obama for not accomplishing anything.

They will also blame him for Iran-Contra and Watergate.

6. About a year and a half ago I would have believed this nonsense
But now it's pretty clear that the rats are jumping from the sinking ship.

Unfortunately, either Obama is Lying, or his handlers are telling tall tales, because a majority of Blue Dog's voted right alongside the Republicans in stalling recently, and I'm confident that we will se more as the 2nd Half of this trainwreck unfolds.

Obama and the DLC went too fast, too hard, and with no shame. Now they are spinning everything they can in hopes to salvage whatever is left of their reputations, but it's too late.

The kitty is depleted, and they are betting the farm on the hopes that they'll get lucky..

This kind of story may make the cheerleaders happy, but it's a pretty sad day when the President doesn't know how far he's fallen because the Handlers he's surrounded himself with hide the truth from him.

Either Obama is really stupid, or the DLC is setting him up for a big perp walk at the end of this mess.

Yep, the Republicans are all rich fatcats that care nothing for the Little People.. Uh Huh.

The only thing obstructing Obama is the fact that there is no more money, and the stuff they print now is worthless.

7. I wonder if he has used signing statements like Bush, and why he just doesn't
do that now, or doesn't it matter, because there is no money?

11. The symbol that was once money has lost its power
They have created a lot of stimulus, and it has not worked, and will not work. It is only prolonging the agony, but I believe we are now seeing phase two beginning.

I have a few reasons for this.

First, we have not seen a correction to the massive bust in the Commercial Real Estate Market. In fact, we here nothing about it in the M$M.
Second, Right now is when all of the Alt-A and Interest Only Loans are recasting. Peaks next month.
Third, there are a buttload of empty houses that are vacant and rotting, when people could be living in them at caretakers costs.
Fourth, the banks are holding vast amounts of housing units off the market in hope to release it gradually to not destroy the market. It won't work, because people see all the empty homes, and aren't ready to plunk down money on a home that will just reduce in value as the bank releases more foreclosed properties next door.
Fifth, 2 Wars, a Potential new War in Korea, and continued harassment of Iran.. Paid for by Borrowed, fiat money backed by nothing.
sixth, Populist uprisings in Greece, Thailand and South Korea as the economic fraud crashes in these countries.
Seventh. Austerity measures yet costs still rise, showing the disconnect between the Government reported Inflation data and the Real Inflation that you and I have to deal with ever day.
Eigth: Empty factories, machinery sold and shipped to China or in a dump somewhere.. It's not coming back easily.
Ninth: Energy Policy focused on Too Big Too Fail projects like a "Fleet of new Nuclear power plants", instead of handing out cheap Solar Panels to everyone with a rooftop.
Tenth: The people have had enough, right alongside the earth. We want real freedom, not phony freedom that dwells on consumption and debt.

Thats just ten of the indicators I have on my list of hundreds...

Phase 2 is going to be pretty messy.

19. This is absolutely breathtaking to read. Why are we not handing out solar panels.
Obama has been talking green tech. Infact, someone from OFA posted a letter on D.U. asking us to stand with Obama and green tech.

27. The solar panels are all made in China,
with a currency that does not trade in the market against others.

Right now the Chinese make a coupla noises about revaluing, but it'll come to nothing.

I'm not on the fiat money bandwaggon. The currency is as good as the government backing it and that's all it's every really been about. Governments stopped gaging themselves on the amount of gold they could accumulate along time ago and thank heavens.

12. Oh please, you can do better than that.
Do you really think a personal insult will change my opinion or that of other alert people?

Get back to your Barbiturates that you understand so well... Or is that a new Talking Point from DLC headquarters? "Barbiturate Left" -- That is too funny! What are you like 60 years old flashing back on mothers little helper or something?

15. Not a fatalist? You must be DLC.
So, ever consider going out into the grown up world of real life politics? Something tells me you've never been and will never go.

I don't blame you, life is much, much simpler in the sandbox.

24. So, "Barbiturate Left" didn't stick, are you attempting to label me as DLC
Edited on Sat Jun-19-10 06:39 PM by Grinchie
Man are you funny.

Make up your mind as to how to demonize the messenger and get back to me...

I'm sure your kettle of Talking points a derogatory labels is full of more applicable labels that would apply to me and all the other Democrats that have woken up to the game being played out in the American Corporatocracy. Their power is waning, and I'd love to see your reasons for still believing that printing more money, rediculously bellicose foreign policy, and the continued push for centralized, globalized power while the American Heartland is dying of cancerous debt and unemployment...

Just take a walk through any neighborhood, and you'll be the one taking Barbiturates as you so quaintly stated in your earlier post to me.

It is kind of unnerving that the Cheerleaders have only ridicule and attack, and cannot stand behind the accomplishments of this administration, which are weighted heavily toward the same old broken methods as the last administration in the name of being "Centrist" AKA Corporatist...

So, You are not a Liberal, and you are not a DLC.. What are you? Do you even know what you stand for?

25. No, you said I was DLC.
But, to satisfy your need to apply political labels, I consider myself a liberal Democrat. After being involved in real world politics for some years I also consider myself reasonably well versed in how it works.

26. Shoulda dumped the Lincoln thing when the economy fell into the tank and started channeling FDR.
Anyone still talking Lincoln in January 2009 was already out of touch with reality.

I've just been so pissed all day that I can't stand it anymore.

10. don't like it? wave a sign at GOP headquarters- the local limbaugh radio
station.

that's where the GOP obstruction starts. without that coordinated uncontested repetition from 1000 radio stations they have nothing. when the left finally figures that out we can have democracy back. until they figure that out the left/liberals/progressives play politics without a front line, ignoring the right's best weapon, giving a 10% minority the biggest soapbox in the country and a free speech free ride.
