Sleeper trailers being set up in Louisiana to house temporary Gulf oil cleanup crews

VENICE, La. (AP) — More than 40 trailers that can sleep up to 36 workers in bunks are being brought to Louisiana coastal communities to house temporary cleanup workers involved in the Gulf oil spill.

Anthony Kelly, a subcontractor hired to set up the temporary housing, said Sunday in Venice that the air-conditioned trailers are similar to passenger train berths, with privacy curtains, lock boxes for personal items and electrical outlets.

Shower trailers are also being brought in, along with generators to power the operation.

BP CEO Tony Hayward says the company is narrowing cleanup of the nation's worst oil spill to Louisiana. Hayward says the fight could last months as the company works on a relief well.

Kelly owns Kelly and Company 1st Responders of Norwood, Mo.

1. Are these trailers full of formaldehyde and other toxins?
If so, I'm sure they are holdovers from the * administration..........

4. This is really a second rate solution
If BP was really thinking, they would pay for clean up workers to fill all the hotels along the coast, providing revenue for the hotels and restaurants, etc., for the duration of the clean up... BP ultimately is going to pay a lot anyway with this trailers scheme and using the hotels and restaurants could mitigate some of the lost business claims--at least from those hotels and areas they utilize in this way. It would certainly keep a bunch of people employed, too--the ones that are going to be laid off if those hotels and restaurants don't get any business.

9. Why aren't they hiring the people who already live there?
Or is it because they are only paying $10 hour and they need to import labor?

WTF? They need to be paying $50 hour PLUS provide all hazmat protection, then maybe they'll have people lining up for the job.

13. Interesting. Let me tell you what I saw a few weeks ago ..
As I drove west fron SC to Oregon, I took the route through Alabama and Mississippi. I saw scores of trucks (Ford F-350 class) pulling trailers. I assumed they were Katrina FEMA trailers bought for a song.

14. Too bad some of these are not dedicated medical
trailers. From what I've been reading, the respiratory problems will need attention.
