Aquino on track for Philippine election win
Source: ABC News

With three-quarters of the vote counted, political commentators say only cheating could steal the presidency away from Benigno NoyNoy Aquino.

The only son of late president Cory Aquino, he has so far won about 40 per cent of the vote. His closest rival, former president Joseph Estrada, has about 26 per cent.

Commentators say it could still be few days before the rest of the votes come in from some of the outlying provinces of the vast archipelago.

They say Mr Aquino's strong anti-corruption campaign won over voters and he has now announced he will investigate outgoing president Gloria Arroyo for alleged vote rigging in 2004.

2. Yeah, but wasn't Manny Pacqiao running for Congress?
Don't know how intelligent he was, so it's not like this election is totally celebrity-proof

5. the Philippines is pretty damn corrupt, that is more than fair to say
I have a house in Neuva Ecija where I live part of the year - and yes the word corruption is almost an understatement.

But, I have to admit that there is a side to that level of corruption that does make life less complicated. One never has to worry about whether or not they get a permit or visa or even whether or not they win a legal case or if their kids get into a top university.
They just have to find out how much and who to pay.

6. Can't have a "Vibrant Economy" with so much corruption
Seagate - the hard drive Mfg built a huge manufacturing facility on the island of Cebu. BUT.. because there Japanese competitors were so successful in paying off corrupt officials that in turn harassed, levied HUGE special construction fees, and otherwise blocked every attempt Seagate made in opening the facility. Seagate abandoned the plan and facility

Wonder how many decent paying jobs are lost because of these corrupt practices
