Republican Advantage in 2010 Voting Enthusiasm Shrinks
Registered voters remain divided in congressional voting preferences
by Jeffrey M. Jones
Page: 12

PRINCETON, NJ -- Republican registered voters' enthusiasm about voting in this year's midterm elections has declined significantly in recent weeks. As a result, Republicans' advantage over Democrats on this measure has shrunk from 19 points in early April to 10 points in the latest weekly aggregate.

In late March and early April, after Congress' passage of healthcare reform, both Republican and Democratic registered voters became more enthusiastic about voting in this year's elections. Republicans' enthusiasm peaked at 54% "very enthusiastic" in late March and early April, but is 43% in the latest weekly update, from April 27-May 2 -- essentially where it was before healthcare passed. By contrast, Democrats have more or less retained the slightly higher level of enthusiasm they showed right after the healthcare bill milestone.

Republicans' current 10-point lead is the smallest Gallup has measured since it began tracking 2010 election attitudes in March.

10. Let's strengthen our lead...
...In business I had a "rule of threes". This was basically, no matter how complex, expensive, risky or strategically imperative an issue was, the executive and board-level decision-makers could assisimlate no more than three things about any given topic.

If I drilled in only three points, and argued every case and answered every question relative to these points, emphasizing these points, the decision makers (let's call them "voters") could be won over to my point of view (not bragging, just saying).

What are the three key points we can use to take America back? My suggestions...

1. Democracy has been hijacked! Corp campaign money, lobbyists, etc.

2. We can take it back! Within our constitution, without bloodshed or great human suffering. We will do this by greatly limiting corporate ability to influence elections, and restricting lobbying/kickbacks/secret job offers, etc. We'll have elected officials who fulfill the "for the people" principle.

3. We'll implement a more progressive tax, much like we had 30 or 70 years ago. Make the richest Americans support the country at a level commensurate with the benefit they get from it. Rebuild the middle class. Bring fairness to the justice system.

Other suggestions welcome, please.

17. IMO, Democrats will do fine in November if they don't give up.
IMO, too many dropped out upon seeing some negative polls.
