Bush-Cheney political director appears before grand jury

AUSTIN (AP) -- The political director for the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign testified yesterday before a grand jury.

The grand jury is investigating charges that corporate money was used illegally in 2002 state legislative races.

A spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee confirmed that political director Terry Nelson testified.

The spokeswoman, Lindsay Taylor, told The Associated Press Saturday that the RNC would have no further comment.

2. This is one to keep your eye on
This deals with the Bug Man's various PACs and groups here in Texas. This article doesn't go in to details on what was illegal about it, but DeLay has pretty brazenly violated more than one Texas state campaign funding law (yes, we have those even in Texas). In essense, he was "laundering" soft money into hard money, sending soft-money corporate donations (even from companies with no business in Texas) to the RNC, and then the RNC would turn around and give that money to state candidates as supposed hard money.

Ronnie Earl (the Travis County DA) basically has him caught red-handed. Now the Pukes at the state level are trying to defund his special anti-corruption office. Really. This could very well be the beginning of the end for DeLay.

8. Please..Please..Please let him fry
I hope to God you are right about this being the beginning of the end. If there is any one person I hate more than the George/Dick hydra, it is DeLay. Unfortunately, it will take at least a year for the courts to get this guy tried and convicted. Too bad destroying democracy isn't a hanging crime in TX.

4. Wahoo!
Bring 'em on? No, Bring 'em down.

They all need to be out there wearing baggy shorts and carrying metal detectors (as Steve Martin once said about Nixon).
