Recovery not complete until jobs restored: Obama
Source: Reuters

11 Feb 2010, 1757 hrs IST, REUTERS

WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama on Thursday warned the country's recovery would not be complete until more citizens find work and the United
States borrows less money from other countries.

Obama, who has made jobs a top priority in this election year, also called on Congress to pass fresh measures to boost hiring and reiterated his pledge to tackle the budget deficit.

"Until jobs are being created to replace those we've lost -- until America is back at work -- my administration will not rest and this recovery will not be finished," Obama said in his Economic Report to the US Congress.

Obama, a Democrat, appealed earlier this week to the Republican opposition to put aside ideological differences and help him craft legislation to boost growth and jobs.

But his Economic Report focused heavily on the deep financial hole that the country was in when Obama took over from Republican George W Bush in 2009 -- a blame game that may make Republican lawmakers less inclined to collaborate.

1. Why am I getting mixed messages?
In another thread it says Obama is a "fierce free-market economist". In this thread it says he is for jobs. Which one is it?

Is he for free-market where the worker has to compete with a third world slave for his job so these "american" corporations can make more profit (status quo since the 80's).

Or is he for jobs for americans?

Seems to me like these are mutually exclusive. Just whose side is he on?

And before you start flaming, I've got the sweatshirt, probably the only piece of clothing I have that came from the US.

4. How in the hell do you restore jobs when you don't STOP the trade agreements??
Address the source of the huge loss of jobs -- for one!!

And as far as I'm aware Obama continues to refuse to do that --

7. You got it. Jobs are being sucked out of this country much faster
Edited on Thu Feb-11-10 12:34 PM by avaistheone1
than our country can ever replace or make up for these jobs. We are never going to have enough money to completely plug the jobs hole if we keep letting these jobs leave the country.

Now why can't Obama and the Dems get it?

8. Oh, they "get it" alright...
They simply aren't working for us. They pretend to work for us, but on the whole, their actions help the corps and harm average Americans.

Obama and the Dems in Congress aren't the ones who don't get it. The ones who don't get it are all the decent, hard-working Democratic voters who just don't have the time or the inclination to follow the political system - the ones who get their news via the corporate media and still believe that Obama and the Dems in Congress are representing their interests.

9.  Agree . . . Obama has refused to amend the trade agreements --
and Dems have to wake up to the reality that much of what's happened in this country

over the last 40 years has happened because the coup on JFK not only took our president,

it took our "people's" government -- and our Democratic Party -- !!!
