Libya Disappointed by Nuclear Show, Official Says
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Washington offended Libya with its display of the north African nation's dismantled nuclear weapons, an official close to the United Nations nuclear watchdog said on Tuesday.

The White House displayed for the media on Monday components flown out of Tripoli in late January under a sudden Libyan agreement to rid itself of weapons of mass destruction.

"Libya was quite unhappy with this dog-and-pony show because it hurts them domestically (and) in the Arab world," said the senior official close to the U.N. watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency.

"It looks like unilateral U.S. disarmament of Libya and Libya wants it recognized as disarmament under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and IAEA auspices," the Vienna-based official added.

1. Muammar Gadafi is a sook
He needs to stop whining. Im glad that tinpot dictator has decided to stop arming Central African warlords and building WMD (that he could never get to work), but his "conversion" was purely opportunistic.

Just when Bush* and his PNAC advisors were copping the most criticism for their "preemptive" strategic doctrine, Libya's dictator surrenders. He gets confirmed in office, gets US investment and technology, and joins the "Friendly Dictators" club. BushCo get some desperately needed credibility at the time they most needed it. Now he objects to paying the price (being outed as the cheap whore he is).

4. I noticed that too
Amusing, that after not being able to find the much anticipated WMD in Iraq, the * admin hides the stuff they were supposed to have obtained from Libya in sealed wooden boxes. What little that was uncrated (I think, it could have just been a photo taped to the box) looked like some b-vent for someone's chimney stack. The whole thing could make one suspicious, if your mind ran that way.

And the newspaper photo caption in my paper said something like "Atomic Energy Commission head So and So stands next to crates filled with nuclear weapons". It would be funny, if it wasn't for the fact that this sort of thing has been used to sell war and invasion.

5. Well, Gadaffi has made his bed with the devil, now sleep in it.
You mean he actually believe that he could trust the US?

7. We just blew any wasta we had with the Libyans
by humiliating them-- making it seem like it was JUST the U.S. disarming them.

This was a huge diplomatic NONO.

9. I don't want to be a fly in the ointment, but...
I'm not too worried about how Qaddafi feels. Libya with nuclear bombs scares the s&!t out of me, and the display of bomb components isn't that unusual. I think the same thing was done with South Africa's bomb components. Anyone who isn't worried about countries like Pakistan and Libya having nukes is whistling past the graveyard.

But the better response might have been : "We resist becoming an active part of the Bush administrations re-election campaign" - Libyan Consulate.
