Defense Secretary Says Capturing Bin Laden Would Not Change the
Problem of Terrorism

By Robert Burns
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) - Capturing or killing al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden would not "change the problem" of international terrorism, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Tuesday.

Rumsfeld also raised the possibility that bin Laden was dead.

"The reality is that bin Laden is spending a great deal of his time - if he is alive today - hiding and running and trying to communicate and trying to survive," Rumsfeld said in an interview at the Pentagon with WTN radio in Nashville.

Because of the pressure on bin Laden, al-Qaida and its affiliates have become more decentralized, Rumsfeld said.

19. where IS saddam?
>Thank God we captured Saddam..."

Has anyone else noticed the lack of mentions of Saddam in Bush's recent jabbering? Very interesting.

5. Whatever happened to "bringing him to justice"?
:eyes:

I thought there was another purpose beyond preventing future attacks.

I guess those 3000 dead people have been forgotten by Rummy.

I guess those 3000 dead people have been forgotten by Rummy.

The airplane part from the jet that crashed into the Pentagon, ostensibly to "remind" people about 9/11.

I can't help but wonder - if you MUST have such a talisman, why not a brick or piece of cement from the BUILDING, instead of a piece of the human-filled missile? Oh well, I guess you have to be Rumsferatu to understand.

15. Upon much reflection, me believes that oil is more a bonus than
the final strategic goal. Number 1A is transfer of wealth from the treasury to self and cronies. Number 1B is power and the maintenance thereof in order to do 1A.

E.g., Kwiatowski mentions three reasons for the Iraq war:

1. Forward base of operations in ME. (1A and 1B)
2. Contracts (1A)
3. Discontinue SH's march to the Euro re: oil revenues. (1A and 1B)

Oil is a nice fringe benefit.

Has he discovered from "focus group" studies and polls that the majority of Americans believe OBL has already been caught? Heh, heh. Is he and his cohorts now building on their "islamofascists everywhere" fear factor to keep their PNAC alive? These people are so g*ddamned manipulative and machiavellian that I feel like I have to constantly anticipate their next BS marketing move.

I am an American!!!! I am appalled at the opaque, secretive, corrupt, greedy, imperialistic leadership of this country which holds a wealth of human resources and compassion and ingenuity!!! The neocons have got to go!!!! They are sick, arrogant f*cks!!

<edited to add "They are sick, arrogant f*cks!!!" *smile*>

12. Welcome back my friends
to the war that never ends. God forbid we should want
to cut that military budget down to something reasonable.

It does seem like a strange thing for him to say,
maybe they know someone else has caught him? I was
expecting the October Surprise (Osama's morgue portrait)
after another September Surprise (another terrorist attack
here).

Osama Bin Laden

SAWYER: Many people have said, "Saddam Hussein. All right. What about Osama bin Laden?" VIDEO OF OSAMA

PRESIDENT BUSH: Well, he's — he's — we're on his trail, too. He's —

SAWYER: Close?

PRESIDENT BUSH: Well, I don't know. It's — it's — you know, had you and I conducted this interview the day before we captured Saddam, you'd have said, "Are we close to Saddam?" And I would have said, "You know, I really don't know." And I knew that we have a strategy to find him, but I didn't know how close we were. And I don't think you know how close you are on finding somebody like this until you actually find them. I mean, this is a person hidden in a hole and in a country the size of California. And bin Laden's on the run. I mean, he's — all I can say, he's certainly not leading any parades these days. And, you know, he's probably in a hole somewhere hiding from justice. We'll get him.

SAWYER: Dead or alive?

PRESIDENT BUSH: Dead or alive.

23. DUH!
Terrorism will always be a problem, it's the New World Order
:eyes:

Remember that stupid b.s. poll about terrorists want Kerry as President 'cos he'd be softer on terrorism. Not only is that total nonsense, but, maybe terrorists like Bush as president because Bush is great for recruitment! I was listening to NPR today when they said that over the past few years, in foreign countries, the favor-ability ratings of U.S. has declined!

He says something different every day. He obviously holds the American people in very low esteem. Not only does he think we're stupid, but he must believe we have the long-term memory of goldfish.
