Anti-war protest held in front of the White House
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Protesters gathered in front of the White House on Monday to express their disappointment that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are not yet over and to request a meeting with President Barack Obama.

An estimated 500 people from various anti-war groups gathered on the sidewalk in front of the White House. A few chained themselves to the fence, some lay down on the sidewalk as if they were dead, and others chanted, “Mourn the dead, heal the wounded, end the war!”

The protest was peaceful, but U.S. Park Police said 61 people were arrested for failure to obey a lawful order after the crowd was repeatedly asked to move back from the sidewalk.

According to Park Police Sgt. David Schlosser, all of those arrested were cited and released.

Don't we pay for those fucking sidewalks?
So we can only gather for peaceful protest in a street, which we also pay for, that puts pedestrians and motorists in danger. Brillant. Nice to know we still have "free speech zones" even after W. Nothing has changed.

6. I am sorry, perhaps you are happy the President is going to continue this futile, unethical,

economically devastating war....

I'm not.

You want to discuss Afghanistan, talk to me. Otherwise, keep your snarky remarks to yourself.

As disgusted as I am with this President, I am more disgusted with the so-called liberals & progressives who champion the man instead of holding his feet to the fire.

Bunch of enablers. Bush pulled this shit, this board would be on fire. It was ,indeed, a smart corporate chess move to create a campaign of the illusion of change.

8. I was responding to you stating that you are disgusted with this President.....
Do you honestly believe that Obama ordered the DC Police to arrest protestors.
If you do, then, you are far too gone for this President to ever be anything but shit
in your book.....and then again....What's new about that?

I'm just saying, you have been disgusted with this President since the election,
and so just as CNN NOW reports everything and anything that goes on that might appear
to make this President look as bad as possible, I see that you happily follow their
mediawhordom lead.

It would be different if you had been supportive for one miniminute prior to landbasting THIS President in reference to just about everything and anything.

But hey....don't let me interrupt your disgust. I wouldn't want to ruin your day.

10. In other words, only Obama groupies and former groupies are allowed to comment...
Those who supported genuine liberals (like Kucinich) and who spotted Obama as a sell-out and a lightweight before the election should just STFU. Yeah, that makes sense.

5. CNN happily reports!
Cause there were so many protests in front of the previous WH that we didn't hear about....but no more of that! Thank God for CNN and them changing their way from when Bush was President...and NOW making sure "this" President is held accountable, no matter if it is one person with one sign walking by! :applause:

9. They should have covered it when Bush was in office and they should be covering it now
I can't stand CNN and part of the reason I can't stand CNN is that they have continually ignored the people in the streets, I say it is about time they covered this kind of thing because I would sure as hell rather hear from the protesters who are standing up for what is right than their pundits who are continually wrong all the time.

12. kill the messenger much?
why even weigh in if you can't admit that this is legit criticism for a president that we all voted for to change this shit?! continue to defend these (in)actions at the peril of whatever cred you may have outside of your little clique of Obama fanboyz.

7. One, two, three, four, we don't want your frakking war!
Back in 1963, just before his assassination, President Kennedy decided to disengage from South Vietnam.

We know what LBJ did.

We are fearful that Obama will follow LBJ's path.

They practically are the military industrial complex, or close allies, that Kennedy pissed off.

16. vietnam was LBJ's war..
but it was strung around Nixon's neck like an albtross. the same will happen to Obama with Afghanistan, and rightfully so, unless the strategy changes real soon.
