is a universal treasure. I got "turned on" to her,
decades ago, in a College poetry class. I pray for her swift
recovery.

15. America's Bard
Healing white light to you, m'lady.

When I was teaching parolees, the first thing I did in my new classroom was to post the following:

"You do what you know and when you know better, you do better." - Maya Angelou

20. UPDATE: Report not true, per Angelou's representatives.
TMZ was the only source of original report of her hospitalization and all other subsequent net reports cited TMZ. TMZ's "taken to hospital" became "rushed to hospital" in other net reports. TMZ provided no updates until this morning, hours after CNN tweet cited Angelou's literary agent contradicting TMZ's report.

First, Twitter from from CNN staff: "Contrary to TMZ report, Maya Angelou is fine, at home, & wasn't even in LA Sat nite, said her literary agent Helen Brann" http://twitter.com/SaeedCNN/status/4601097553

This morning's TMZ update:

Reps for Maya Angelou tell us she was never scheduled to appear at the event last night -- so we have no idea why the organizers told us she was a no-show because she went to the hospital?

Our camera guy on scene was told that Angelou would not be there because she was taken to the hospital. But according to Angelou's people, she never agreed to be there at all and sent a taped acceptance speech in her place.

Angelou is alive and well in St. Louis today and heading off to New York City for the next 2-3 weeks. http://www.tmz.com/2009/10/03/maya-angelou-hospital/
