World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Resigns to Run for Senate
Source: Wall Street Journal

SEPTEMBER 16, 2009, 9:16 A.M. ET

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. Chief Executive Linda McMahon stepped down from her post, one day after joining the increasingly crowded Republican field looking to run against Connecticut Sen. Christopher Dodd.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon will assume the additional duties of CEO, supported by "the seasoned executive management team already in place," the wresting entertainment and media company said.

The announcement came as WWE grapples with the weak economy and competition from sports such as kickboxing. Still, WWE's profit nearly tripled in the latest quarter amid cost cuts as revenue rose 7%.

Ms. McMahon, 60 years old, is the fourth Republican to declare her candidacy, following former Rep. Rob Simmons, state Sen. Sam Caligiuri and former U.S. Ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley. Mr. Dodd will be seeking a sixth term in next year's election.

4. We don't need more Republicans in the Senate,
but if we could find a progressive Democrat with experience managing wrestlers, we might be able to use him/her.

7. God I hope she goes down in flames...
The McMahons deserve some mega comeuppance for some of the crap they've pulled over the years... this would be sweet justice for any real wrestling fan who is tired of the McMahon ego destroying the industry for everyone else.

I can see where she may see this as a natural extension of her career.

15. Good luck to Ms. McMahon.
She won't win anyway, but made into a laughingstock of her business and the people of Connecticut in general.

I'm hoping someone will primary out Dodd and replaced with someone who has the sense and sensibility to defeat Ms. McMahon.

18. Ms. McMahon is about as phony as the so called sport she has represented.
And like that sport she ought to provide a bit of entertainment.

23. GOP In Disarray
My first thought upon hearing this was that the GOP is in real trouble. When Vince McMahon is the Republican nominee the party really has problems.
