Teabaggers Shout Down Tampa Bay Town Hall
Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 12:05 AM by RamboLiberal
Source: CBS News

In Ybor City, Florida, a town hall meeting turned into a scrum with protesters screaming "Tyranny! Tyranny! Tyranny!" at Congresswoman Kathy Castor, D-Tampa.

The St. Petersburg Times dscribed the scene as something akin to a wrestling cage match with some in the audience screaming, "Tell the truth! Tell the truth!" "Read the bill!" "Forty-million illegals! Forty million illegals!" According to the paper's reporter, those who weren't allowed into the overflow room because of fire code restrictions were left pounding on the doors.

"They can't even run a meeting, and they want to run health care?" a Tampa printing business owner by the name of Kevin Grant was quoted as saying. He was standing next to a guy with a "Shame on you America. You sold your soul to the Devil" sign. Sounds like it was a fun time for all. Watching the clip, it seemed the hysteria was reaching the point where I was sure someone would jump out of the crowd screaming, "Soylent Green is people!" Maybe next time.

Police officers were called to calm down an unruly crowd outside a health care reform town hall meeting in downtown Tampa, Florida on Thursday evening, according to local news reports.

Angry protesters screamed, yelled and banged on windows as officers hurried to guard the entrances to the facility, where U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor was trying to discuss the various health care reform proposals being debated in Congress. One photojournalist said that a fistfight broke out inside the building, reports WTSP.

Many of the hundreds of protesters said that they had been inspired by a conservative activist group promoted by Fox News host Glenn Beck and some received emails from the county Republican party, according to the St. Petersburg Times:

Instead, hundreds of vocal critics turned out, many of them saying they had been spurred on through the Tampa 912 activist group promoted by conservative radio and television personality Glenn Beck. Others had received e-mails from the Hillsborough Republican party that urged people to speak out against the plan and offered talking points to challenge supporters.

3. Looks like the bastards accomplished shutting it down
The problems began when a crowd of about 500, many of them recruited to attend by interest groups both for and against the proposal, sought to enter the meeting room. The room, in the offices of the Hillsborough County Children's Board on East Palm Avenue, has a capacity of about 250.

Several hundred people, mostly opponents, wound up outside or packing a hallway leading into the meeting room. Some scuffled with members of the sponsoring groups at the doorway.

One man who said he was injured and intended to file a police complaint, Randy Arthur of Oldsmar, was outside the meeting room with his wife, Kathy Arthur, when organizers tried to close the doors.

She said he was slammed against a wall. He later talked to police officers, his knit shirt ripped and a few scratches visible on his chest

4. It's a shame.
Kathy Castor is one of the best reps in congress.

The St. Pete Crimes reporter, Adam Smith, is a right-wing jackass.

13. How about brownshirts?
Brownshirts disrupted public meetings in Wiemar Germany. Their message, like the present day health care hooligans was pro-corporate. Fascism is NOTHING if not pro-corporate.

17. So many are the Medicare set. They're ON socialized healthcare.
Why isn't this being emphasized by the speakers? Are these seniors happy with Medicare? Then they're already happy with socialized medicine!
