Jerry Springer to help Democrats
Cincinnati - Talk-show host Jerry Springer plans to move back to Cincinnati in April or May to help campaign for Democrats in the state, a spokesperson said.

Springer, 60, a former mayor of the Ohio city Cincinnati who ran unsuccessfully for state governor in 1982, wants to help Democrats get elected this November to the Ohio Senate and House, said spokesperson Dale Butland by telephone from Columbus on Wednesday.

Springer has been regularly speaking around Ohio in recent months and has said he is open to possibly running for governor in 2006.

1. Jerry told me
...at the Dem State holiday party that he is definitely running in 2006.

He donated some bones to all the dem presidential candidates, but endorsed Kucinich.

Jerry is a good financier for Dems in OHio--God knows we need the money!

7. GREAT
i wanted him to run for senate. but good to hear he will run for governor. he really does need to get out there and speak to the people. he is a great speaker, knows issues well, a very kind man who understands the problems and offers good solutions. he is tainted by his show though, so he needs to get out there and talk to the people directly because the media wont help him. the people in ohio are really suffering under the asshole and i'm hoping they go democratic in the presidential race and then for jerry springer when he runs for governor.

11. He needs to bury the show...
...and keep it out of sindication for the next two years.

And do all the things you said. Otherwise, he will get no respect from the media.

He also needs to place emphasis on the fact that it was 'entertainment', not his life and political views.

He is very good on the issues.

20. LOL! Springer the hero, Nader the devil!
When people prefer the TV exploiter to the paragon of democracy, you know things are f'd up.

19. Association of the Democratic party with sleaze
was what distorted the last presidential election's issues, creating a narrow race, and helping to allow the rethugs to tamper with the results.

I agree with others here...If Springer wants to help, he should give money to the campaign and keep his mouth shut.

6. Springer was in politics long before his TV show
He was contemplating a run this election season, but kiboshed it when his polling was showing people wouldn't be able to get past his show.

10. Strange..
I admit I am not a fan of Springer's show...I think it's disgusting. And I think the thing that makes Springer different from other Dems is that he actually understands how the public wants their entertainment, then he gives it to them. That's exactly what the sickening Rethugs like Limbaugh and Michael Savage do, and I guarantee their bank accounts aren't suffering.

I may not like the way he earns his living, but if he's putting his money towards something that's worthwhile, more power to him.

18. I understand your point...
my only concern is that his support would put a spotlight on his show; and sleaze is not what democrats need to gain public support...even if the majority of prospective voters like his show.

I must admit, though, that I never thought Limbaugh would be an asset to the repugs; and I was wrong about that.

8. We need all the help we can get, especially in Ohio...
It has always amazed me how many otherwise intelligent people, watch Jerry Springer! I think it must be a release for them...you know, entertainment. Like buying a copy of 'National Enquirer' for the yuk value, which is made even greater from knowing that many people actually BELIEVE what is written there!

Do you think we can get Beavis and Butthead on board?

9. The guy's a walking media event
Candidates in Cincinnati can't get noticed by the local Nazi's at the Cincinnati Enquirer, and having Jerry by their side all but guarantees coverage.

Case In Point: Greg Harris, the winner in Tuesday's primary and challenger against Steve Chabot (R-Bad Hair) wasn't even mentioned in the paper Wednesday morning, despite the fact that he had a fairly competetive race. Not a word -- just the "box score" vote totals and that was it.

Go to www.electgregharris.com and give the guy a couple of bucks. God knows he'll need it.

12. earth to Jerry: Help the Dems by pretending to be a Rethug
The world thinks, and for good reason, that Jerry Springer is the biggest slimeball the media has ever seen.

He is the original "media whore". He is the whore of whores.

He disgusts me and if he wants to help the Democratic party, he can do it by campaiging for the repubs.

13. Jerry Springer and the travelling white trash tranvestite hooker circus
With all due respect, if Jerry Springer REALLY wanted to help the Democrats, he'd write some big fat checks out to the DNC, the Ohio state party and individual candidates, and then he'd drop off the radar screen.

14. There's no place like home
I'm a Cincinnati ex-pat (living in L.A.).

Cincinnati and Jerry Springer really do deserve one another.

Despite being nick-named the "Queen City", Cincinnati is the ONLY CITY IN THE COUNTRY that promotes discrimination against gay, lesbian, and bisexual residents by denying gay people protection against discrimination.

Due to Article XII, it is legal to fire someone for being gay, to deny a gay person housing, or to refuse service to a gay person in a restaurant or in a store. http://www.citizenstorestorefairness.org/

I wonder how they will discern if a person is gay?

And these folks had the nerve to bid on the 2008 Summer Olympics?!?!?!

Because of Article XII gays are conducting an economic boycott against Cincinnati. Last I heard it cost the city over $50 million in lost revenues from canceled/ lost convention money.

Cincinnati is also being boycott by the "Black United Front".
Cincinnati is made up of nearly 50% African - American, the vast majority of who are mired in poverty.

Despite billions of dollars currently being spent on development projects such as football and baseball stadiums, expressways, housing for the middle and upper classes, business development, tax abatements, and proposed additional funding for existing downtown businesses. Black people have received promises but little or no participation in these or other economic opportunities.
http://www.cbuf.info/position.html

Of the $150 billion generated by local area companies (like P&G) less than 1% goes the Black residents.

I hope that Jerry Springer brings the "town opposite the mouth of the Licking River" all the notariety it truly deserves.

21. Despite the less pleasant things you mentioned abouty Cincy...
I've been a Bengals fan since childhood! I still remember the helmets that had the letters "b e n g a l s" on them, and recall the uproar when they changed to the black/orange "claw marks". Back at that time Ken Anderson was their QB...they got a great offensive lineman (Dave Rimington) from my favorite College (Nebraska). Shortly after that they got a QB from a local College (Esiason), and a wide receiver who went to High School in the same county as me (Collinsworth).

A few years later...who can forget the Ickey Shuffle?

Unfortunately, Rimington/Esiason/Collinsworth didn't work out nearly as well as I hoped, but I'm glad that they've got a great coach turning things around.

22. We need Jerry Springer
like we need a hole in the head.

People keep telling me to ignore the show, and just listen to him.

Sorry, but that crappy show is unforgettable. No one will be able to ignore it.

Walk away, Jerry. You sold your soul to the TV devil. You can't come back to the world of the credible and you'll do far more harm than good. Just write some checks and shut the hell up.

25. Ohio needs to be saved
When I was growing up in PA, with a summer home on the PA/OH border, Ohio was the "rebel" state. It was the place where you could buy fireworks and beer in grocery stores (at age 17 if you looked old enough), ride motorcycles and go karts without helmets, openly smoke pot at drive-in movie theaters, and drive shitty cars with no inspections and minimal insurance. Some of these things haven't changed, and I've still got friends in NE Ohio (the liberal part). However, it seems like the fundies have really taken over the state. I think Springer should speak his mind. The culture wars are back and I'll take a Bud drinking, coke snortin, metalhead over any hypocrite fundy. I guess I'm more Libertarian than anything when it comes to stuff like this. That's just my 2€ though.

27. You know the area.
I actually never threw anything into the lake because I was a fisherman/environmentalist. However, I did spend many weekend nights with 3 or 4 cases of empty cans in my parents' car's trunk. We usually just dumped them at a dumpster by the old theater in Andover. That summer they closed the causeway really screwed us up. Had to go all the way to Jamestown or Linesville to cross.

I've spent a lot of time in Mercer County too. Do you know Trent Reznor? Everyone I've ever met from there does in some way (LOL).
