They planned simultaneous bombings in german nightclubs and the likes to kill as many americans as possible. They wanted to influence Germany's commitment to the Afghanistan-mission. They were arrested by an antiterror police-unit before they could carry out their crimes.

For example, it is unknown to the prosecutors from where they got the detonators for their bombs.

3. They must not have gotten much coverage in the states - I wonder why.

Maybe the powers that be didn't like the comparison. These guys actually had detonators - here the home-grown terrorists all turn out to be sad sacks who couldn't organize a barbecue, much less a terrorist attack, and they never seem to get their hands on any real explosives. And all are turned in by FBI 'informers', who turn out to be the primary instigators of the plots.
