Gingrich: Pelosi could be ousted as House speaker if she lied
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Newt Gingrich continued his attacks on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Saturday, saying she "defamed everyone" in the intelligence community and he can't "see how she can serve as speaker if it turns out that she has lied about national security both to the House and to the rest of the country.”

"I would expect at that point a motion of censure, and I think under the rules of the House, you can't serve for the rest of that term if you've been censured," Gingrich, a former Republican speaker of the House, said in an interview with CNN.

Pelosi has been under fire from critics who say she was fully briefed on the controversial waterboarding technique — now deemed torture by the Obama administration — in 2002 and 2003. On Thursday, the California Democrat accused CIA officials of misleading her, reiterating a claim that she was briefed on such techniques only once — in September 2002 — and that she was told at the time the techniques were not being used.

Pelosi said the briefing she received from the CIA was incomplete and inaccurate, and she called on the CIA to release a full transcript of the briefing.

4. Nancy baby - I hope you see this for what it is - a mad power grab
Fight it

Seriously fight it

We're both San Franciscans - we "get" it

I know you didn't go for the jugular like you could have - water under the bridge

But Newt, a man named after a lizard, wants your job

And he thinks the way to get it is to take down you

And if he does, guess what Nancy - he will eventually

But if you fight it - go screeching holy murder - you can win

Because their charges are BS

Sure, you appeased the Bush admin - that's EXACTLY why they think they have you

But they don't

Fight it

As much as I think you screwed the pooch, I think you did it for what you felt at the time were good reasons.

But here we are, facing a full on frontal assault

Politics IS a contact sport

Play it like it is

senate and executive branch and they did whatever the fuck they wanted to.

I don't know how Gingrich knows anything about this as he has been censured and kicked out for years. He is testing the waters because I don't think any serving repuke wants to make the first move.

As if Gingrich never lied to his wives, never lied to America about "trickle down" economics, or less taxation producing jobs.

Like he is about to ask for George and Dick to be censured, or Tom DeLay, or any of the other crooks.

said Impeachment was off the table as soon as the Democrats regained control. I don't know why she ever got the job in the first place. She was a virtual rubber stamp for everything Bush wanted I don't doubt for a minute that she knew about the water-boarding either. How about Jay Rockefeller he was also an enabler for Buchco's torture wasn't he?

40. Whatever the merits of the situation may be, Newt is a stranger to them. The Republicans
have decided that they can neutralize the torture issue by focusing on Pelosi and Turd Gingrich is doing his part for his Party by echoing the Pub Meme Du Jour. That's all he ever does. It's never about right or wrong with him, only about Party partisanship. He should change his name because continuing to call himself newt is so unfair to salamanders.

19. This Is Hard To Understand
Since she and Bob Graham are saying pretty much the same thing. There was a single briefing, not 4, and that the CIA was more interested in telling their superiors what they wanted to hear (a al Qaeda-Saddam connection) than telling the truth. Why doesn't Newt go after the CIA for their behavior since they are the troublemakers with their faulty, unsupported data.

43. Truth has no place on a thread about Newt. However, just between us
chickens, Nancy has said publicly recently that she knew in 2003. The CIA said she knew in 2002. So the whole drama (as to Pelosi and the CIA in this) has been about some number of months.

Google this site for Pelosi 2003 and you'll find the thread on the story in which she admitted knowing.

That said, Newt Gingrich has no business casting stones at anyone.

26. I wanna know who all knew....I don't care if an R or a D follows their names
Because if this rumor about "viewing parties" floating around is even full of "just" half truths...there are some sick puppies that need to be sent packing.

From an unofficial DEA website that I stumbled across a while back, I still check it once in a while...it has some insider rumors/water cooler talk. Soooo, has anyone outright asked officials in DC if they attended any of the chimp regime "viewing parties"??

Stunning report from Mike today.

Mike reports that there exists a list of people who were invited to personally watch some of the CIA captives being tortured. Some of the people were high government officials. Some were earners of high paychecks in the private sector. The names of these individuals, both government and private are known. Some personally viewed the tortures. Some attended videotaped viewings at the WH, the Vice President's home and inside the AG's office. The viewers were people who expressed great anger over 9/11. They were invited to secret viewings by the president (Bush) and others for the purpose of satisfying and gratifying their desire for revenge.

Mike's report confirms (DEA Watch's) report two years ago that high level members of Congress and others were invited to personally view the torture of captives. Mike reports that the most important question of all was not asked by any witness during today's Capitol hearings. That question was: Why were some prisoners waterboarded dozens of times? The honest answer to that question is: They were waterboarded repeatedly not to obtain information but to provide entertainment for throngs of secret visitors who were permitted to personally watch then being tortured. Those visitors included everyone from senior government officials to movie stars.

28. Yes, let's see the transcript
...and if Pelosi is lying, she should step down as Speaker. Why would we demand any less? Is she lying? I have no idea, although after observing several years of her "roll-over-and-play-dead-for-BushCo" strategy I can't imagine she would have made any big stink if the CIA had actually come out and said they were torturing people. Her silence in 2002 doesn't indicate one way or another what she was told. If there's a transcript, it should be made public.

29. Gingrich is not serious. What a nut case. He never changes.
It's always about the noise, the show, the theater for the newt.

Newts are salamanders that live much or all of their adult lives under water, although not all aquatic salamanders are considered newts. Newts are classified in the subfamily Pleurodelinae of the family Salamandridae, and are found in North America, Europe and Asia. Newts metamorphose through three distinct developmental life stages: aquatic larva, terrestrial juvenile (called an eft<1>), and adult. Adult newts have lizard-like bodies and may be either fully aquatic, living permanently in the water, or semi-aquatic, living terrestrially but returning to the water each year to breed.

36. Gingrich is really out there these days. Desperately trotting out
ridiculous arguments to shift the attention from 8 years of disastrous Republican mismanagement to Democratic problems. So he's jumped on the bandwagon of an old magician's trick-- no, don't look at which top officials in the Republican Executive Branch authorized the torture-- No No, look over there-- Nancy Pelosi! Nancy Pelosi!

Don't look at the new tribunals of enemy combatants at Gitmo that have to stay there because so much of the evidence against them has been tainted by Republican-promoted torture. No no, look over there-- Nancy Pelosi! Nancy Pelosi!

He's been working hard lately to inject some professorly rhetoric into the Republican bashing of all things Democratic. They have looked ridiculous with their simplistic "Party of No" approach, pushing the already bankrupt policies of tax-cutting for the rich and cutting social programs. So The Newt has jumped in to talk in paragraphs to confuse the issues. And since he can talk in paragraphs and write tracts to obfuscate, he's called in as a TV pundit and has even been hired to write a column for the free Examiner newspaper in San Francisco. Lots more free press for Right Wing disinformation.

He's appointed himself Republican Party Savior, and is working hard to test out what kinds of phrases will work to turn the public against the Obama Administration and the Democrats. Hoping to rope in people who don't remember him from the old days. Ready to lie with full confidence on any topic, to suit the needs of the GOP.

Just in case you haven't seen his fabulous advice to fellow GOP leaders in past smearing campaigns, here is a link to his GoPac memo of 1996, "Language: A Key Mechanism of Control." For him, language is not a vehicle to express the truth, it is a weapon to gain control.

48. Who's the most virulently anti-GOP person in the House Democratic Caucus?
The Republicans have decided that going after Speaker Pelosi is the way to deflect notice that Bushco violated the Laws of Land Warfare with this "enhanced interrogation" torture bullshit. Okay fine...move Speaker Pelosi back to the rank and file of the House Democratic Caucus and pick the Democratic Congressman who most hates the GOP to be her replacement. At that point we start a genuine investigation of the Bush Administration, one which will end with all of them in prison.

House Reprimands, Penalizes Speaker
By John E. Yang
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, January 22 1997; Page A01

The House voted overwhelmingly yesterday to reprimand House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and order him to pay an unprecedented $300,000 penalty, the first time in the House's 208-year history it has disciplined a speaker for ethical wrongdoing.
