Prosecutors ask for longer sentence for Siegelman (20 years)
Source: AP

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Federal prosecutors want former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman to serve a much longer sentence than he originally received in a federal government corruption case, even though an appellate court has thrown out two of the charges against him.

The prosecutors have sent a letter to federal probation officers recommending that Siegelman be sentenced to 20 years in federal prison when he receives a new sentencing hearing in federal court in Montgomery. Siegelman was originally sentenced to more than seven years in prison for his 2006 conviction for bribery, obstruction of justice and other charges.

The letter was also sent to Siegelman’s attorneys. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the letter Tuesday.

“It’s evident that this team of prosecutors are biased and hell-bent to uphold this conviction and try to punish me as much as they can,“ Siegelman said Tuesday in a telephone interview.

1. WHY are any of these prosecutors still on the public payroll? I'll go further, I want no
rightwing or republican prosecutors left in this country, period. (Yes I know some of the great ones are republicans, just ranting.) NO prosecutors from the BUsh years should be in office. We know the decent ones were fired. clean-up time!

12. It's pretty typical.
Lawyers demand the whole jar of cookies when they know they do not deserve a single crumb.

Right out of the "The Art of War"; "When you are weak, appear strong".

They will get more than nothing if they ask for everything as though they deserve it.

9. If we don't know by now that we have zero representation, we never will...
There is very little difference between the two parties. Both are self-serving and corrupt. Both serve the interests of the plutocracy, not the people. Democrats try to stay just a tad less evil than Republicans, and they succeed, but just barely. The entire two-party system is a charade. Both parties are deserving of contempt. While our contempt for the Republican party should be greater, that doesn't mean the Democratic party has earned our support.

I think many of us are beyond outrage and disappointment; we have either given up and become jaded, or are waiting for the rise of third party worthy of support. Obama's series of breath-taking sell-outs has gone a long way toward destroying any hope for good things to come out of government and politics - especially in younger people. And that's a shame. We had a real shot at creating another energized generation like the FDR Dems, but he threw it away with his timidity, appeasement, and outright sell-outs. If the Obama campaign had been completely honest, this would have been their jingle: "Better Than The Alternative & Not A Penny More"

13. I think the first thing that must happen...
...is a much wider recognition that we have been conned by Obama. That's beginning to occur. Unfortunately, far too many simply don't want to believe it. Obama is quite skilled at tapping into the emotional. He uses very much the same types of techniques that are employed by faith healers, tent revivalists, psychic mediums, and religion. Richard Dawkins conducted an interesting interview with Derren Brown in which he made the point that people who have been conned by such methods really DO want to believe to the point where they are often hostile toward those who expose the charlatans (they happened to be discussing psychic mediums, but I think it applies here as well). We're seeing a similar type of denial in those who really want to believe in Obama. And I can understand that.

But I think those of us who were really never emotionally invested in Obama's rhetoric should continue to speak out. Until a critical mass of people recognize that representatives from BOTH parties have sold us out, there is very little that can be done. It will be a very long process. And there's a good chance that by the time enough are ready to dump these two worthless parties, the country will be hollowed out.

Obama's stunning, in-your-face, sell-outs have pretty much doused any small spark of hope that may have existed. The banks and corps clearly call the shots and own the politicians. It's pretty much over, IMO.
