Snowmobile groups sue over Canada lynx habitat

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) -- Snowmobile groups are suing to challenge a federal plan that designates 39,000 square miles of land in six states as critical habitat for the threatened Canada lynx.

The Wyoming State Snowmobile Association and the Washington State Snowmobile Association filed a lawsuit Monday in U.S. District Court in Cheyenne. They contend the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's proposed protection for the Canada lynx threatens to disrupt their sport.

The snowmobile groups argue the habitat designation amounts to a major federal action that requires a detailed environmental study.

Several environmental groups also say they intend to sue the federal agency, saying the habitat designation covers too little of Montana and does not include northeastern Washington and the southern Rocky Mountains in Colorado.

4. I think they call 'em sleds in Alaska.
Here they're 4 wheelers because we don't get enough snow to use them sled thingies.

2. Selfish asses
I never got this sort of mindset that makes people beleive they have a divine right to plow across wherever the shit htye want for no reason at all. Hell, I remember four-wheeling with some friends on the Copper River delta, and a few of them took great pains to carvve the shit out of as many dunes as they possibly could.

I think it's the same mindset that makes certain men demand that their partners be virgins.

10. Burning gas
And when the engines crap out on their boat/jetski/4-wheeler/ATV/dune buggy/dirt bike, they can light their gas cans on fire and watch them burn.

3. I must need abuse...
or something, so I'll bite on this one.

Fucking snowmobilers (some of them) and off-road ATV riders (some of them) won't be happy until they thrash every square inch of the country.

I've seen exactly one lynx in many years of wandering the back country.

More Lynx.... less VroomVroom.

5. I wonder if they'd be up for a "detailed environmental study" of...
the impact of snowmobiles.

I'd like to see that study too.

8. Now there is a group which needs to become extinct as quickly as possible.

I vote for taking over all their play yards and/or running them over a cliff, wild mustang style. Or how about allowing the Canadian lynx to carry firears into state parks? We're already global warming them to the death anyway.

9. I've been snowmobiling once or twice, and it's a blast
And I love riding dirt bikes.

But there is plenty of space for those activities. It drives me bonkers when fellow riders seem to think there isn't, or that our jollies can't take a back seat to species survival.
