Soldier: Comrades wore 'ninja suits' as disguise (before murder and rape of Iraqi family)

PADUCAH, Ky. — Jurors have heard testimony that an ex-soldier charged with murder and rape in Iraq was among three who donned black "ninja suits" and ski masks before an attack that killed a family of four.

The ex-soldier on trial, Steven Dale Green of Midland, Texas, has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a March 2006 attack in Iraq that included the rape of a 14-year-old girl.

Jesse Spielman, who is serving time in a military prison for a role in the attack, testified Thursday about how Green and other soldiers disguised themselves before going to the family's home.

Green is being tried in Kentucky as a civilian because he had been discharged from the Army before charges were brought. He could face the death penalty if convicted.
