Poll: Bush Getting Even More Unpopular Out Of Office
Edited on Wed Apr-29-09 04:24 PM by Tangerine LaBamba
Source: The Huffington Post

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll found that former President Bush's popularity has dropped since he left office.

When he left office in January, 31 percent of American's viewed him positively. That number has now dropped to 26 percent.

President Barack Obama, meanwhile, is more popular than the past two presidents at this point during their first terms.

I find this inspiring. Even out of office, Chimpy continues to screw up.

I don't ever recall seeing numbers like this. And I'm old ..........................

4. This actually happened to Bill Clinton in 2001 too, with one exception
Clinton was relatively popular upon leaving office, but he pardoned Marc Rich on his way out of the White House (a terrible thing, in my view). This then set up weeks of nasty news coverage of the now departed Clinton Administration, and his favorables dipped into the 40's.

But Bush was already unpopular upon leaving office, and now his numbers seem to have found a new floor.

19. Most didn't 'get' Rich pardon for what it was - a favor for Bush1. The 'Clintons trashed WH' story
that went on for 8 months is what really tanked Clinton's numbers. It was always odd to me that Clintons would let Rove get away with that and not launch a full attack back. But, they let Bush and Rove have all the room they wanted to manipulate that story and others as the Democratic party on the whole took the brunt of the fallout.

35. You're absolutely right -
most people didn't give a rat's ass about Marc Rich - as if they knew who he was. But, the "they trashed the White House on their way out, even removed the Ws from the keyboard" bullshit was taken as gospel and reported over and over. When the story was found to be false, you recall that the acknowledgment of that was whispered in the girls' room in a Catholic elementary school in Frackville, PA, and that was the extent of the reporting.

I suspect Clinton didn't do a thing to stanch those awful rumors because he was already in bed with Old Man Bush and learning exactly how much HUGH cash he could make as a civilian....................

His approval rating has consistently deteriorated :)

Funny how the number of people who disapprove of Obama's job so far are very much in keeping with W's approval numbers. Hmmm... we should give W his own little island country and ship all his supporters over there!

Gilligan was probably more intelligent... he was certainly a nicer person.

17. They won't need to scrounge hard
As a veteran (okay, a really bad one but a veteran nonetheless), Bush is entitled to a full military funeral detail: six pallbearers, seven riflemen carrying three blank rounds, two more riflemen carrying live ammunition to keep people from pissing on his grave until after they get the hole filled in, a Faux Bugle player, a rifleman's sergeant and a second lieutenant to give the flag to Bush's next of kin.

Were it not for that, Bush's pallbearers would be two freepers and a pallet jack.

He maybe, in some crazed, failed attempt at being a suicide bomber, he'll blow himself up and leave nothing to bury? Thus doing away with the pallbearers? As for the riflemen and the Bugler, can we get some really old an crippled vets? Too old to protect the handful of remains from being pissed on?

There's no way the remains won't be pissed on, but with enough armed guards maybe they can protect them until the outhouse is finished.

Never use GOP, right-wing, or conservative to describe these corporate slime, they are republicans and they all vote republican and subscribe to the elitist sick greedy, hateful, lying republican ideology!!

"Democrats sue to make Rossi call himself "Republican" instead of "GOP"

OLYMPIA — The state Democratic Party filed suit Tuesday in an attempt to force Dino Rossi to list his party preference as "Republican" on the November ballot instead of "GOP Party."

Democrats say the Iraq War and low approval ratings for President Bush have left the Republican Party a damaged brand and that Rossi is trying to distance himself by using GOP as his affiliation.

Rossi is running against Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire. He lost to Gregoire by 133 votes in the 2004 election, and polls show this race to be close as well.

Polls by Stuart Elway have suggested many people don't know that GOP and Republican mean the same thing. One recent Elway poll indicated Rossi did better among voters if he used the "GOP" label instead of "Republican."

Republican is a bad name and greedy selfish person.

14. Are you old enough to remember
Edited on Wed Apr-29-09 04:58 PM by Tangerine LaBamba
when Duke University was going to house the Nixon Library? (He was a graduate of their law school.)

At the time - 1980-81 - I was working for the man who had been Harry Truman's Chief of Staff, worked in LBJ's White House, and was one of the founders of the Democratic Club here in DC. A great man, a North Carolinian, a Duke grad, undergraduate and law, and Charles S. Murphy hated Dick Nixon with all his heart.

Charlie loved his country and hated what Nixon had done to it.

So, Charlie, who was a Trustee at Duke, a friend of Terry Sanford, who was the president of Duke, notified Sanford that if they went through with this Nixon Library project, he would resign his trusteeship, withdraw all his financial pledges and endowments (which were considerable), and he would encourage others to do the same.

Sanford screwed up and said, essentially, to Charlie, "Sorry you feel that way, but we're going forward with it."

Charlie resigned, yanked his financial support, and started writing letters. (I wrote most of the letters.) He engaged EVERYONE who had gone to Duke, and they grew into a formidable group. I remember getting a call from William Styron, who was also a Trustee, and he was so angry, he could barely speak.

Charlie persisted, and have you noticed where the Nixon Library is located?

I hope some SMU grads will get their backs up like that, but I suspect they're fans of Chimpy ...........................

http://images.google.com/hosted/life/l?imgurl=185ea3b83...

A young Charlie Murphy is on the right.

He used to send me - in our law firm's limousine - to Governor Harriman's mansion in Georgetown to get documents signed. (Charlie and Averell Harriman were both Directors of the Truman Scholarship Fund.)

It was while I was waiting to be escorted upstairs to the Governor's study that I spotted an amazing painting over a breakfront in the huge dining room. I was captivated. It was the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen.

After the Governor died, after his widow, Pamela died, I saw the painting again, at the National Gallery in Washington, DC.

It was Van Gogh's "White Roses."

exposure and impeachment after the BCCI report was released Dec1992. That protection he got throughout the 90s gave him the ability to polish his shit record into gold nuggets and all this nation got in return was Bush, 9-11, this Iraq war and a DC conventional wisdom mindset of the Reagan-Bush legacies that is ONE HUGE LIE.

21. The reason those numbers dropped off...
...is because a portion of the nutjobs could no longer justify rationalizing
his failure. When Bush was prez, they felt as if they had to stick up
for him and toe the line.

Now, that he's just a poor, brush-clearing sap who lives in Texas--they've moved
on to rationalizing others--like Limbaugh and Gingrich.

At least they stopped. Can you imagine what kind of a person STILL supports
the worst President in the history of this country? Can't they see the mess
we're mopping up--because Bush was a complete failure of epic proportions?

I never believed the "90%" approval rate after 9/11, and I am skeptical about this, as well. I work amongst Republicans. A sizable portion of my family are Republicans. And you won't find a single one who would piss on George Bush if he were on fire.

I'm thinking his true number is more in the realm of 10-15%, because you can never get rid of the left end of the bell curve. But one in four? No way.

I'm pretty sure some percentage of the people I know loved him to death, but only a few of those would be stupid or crass enough to admit it publicly.

Basically, they support him just to spite "liberals." They have been listening to anti-"liberal" propaganda for 30 years now. They hate liberals and they will ridicule and oppose anything they perceive "liberals" as liking or wanting.

In fact, "liberal" is an epithet for them. Anything or anyone they don't like is a "liberal," just as some younger people use "gay" to indicate they don't like something.

Once, when I was teaching (college), we were having a discussion in class. One young woman was very outspoken and taking what I thought was an untenable position. I went to the board and wrote down some statistics that punched holes in her argument. She looked them, slammed her book shut, and said "Well, those look like liberal numbers to me." She then turned and faced the wall and wouldn't speak for the rest of the class.

72. amongst other things.....you're so right...IF they truly cared, exposing BushInc would definitely
make them heroes in this country and in the world. But....it's apparent most Republicans (and some powerful Democrats) SIDE with the fascist agenda that the Bushes have been leading for decades.

66. I love how that he's having to hide since leaving.
Except for showing up at a ball game and another local event, I've heard nothing about W. I don't even cringe anymore when someone mentions 'the President'. Love it!

84. this is unfair to Bush
now that Obama is in office, people are reminded what a president is supposed to be like. How can Bush be expected to compete with that?

87. Give him a break, at least Bush is good at something.
If he maintains his momentum, I believe Bush could become the first President to break in to the - poll rankings.
