Petraeus Says Israel Might Choose to Attack Iran
Source: Bloomberg

April 1 (Bloomberg) -- Israel might choose to attack Iran to prevent it from developing a nuclear bomb, the top U.S. commander in the Middle East said today.

Army General David Petraeus told Congress that “the Israeli government may ultimately see itself so threatened by the prospect of an Iranian nuclear weapon that it would take preemptive military action to derail or delay it.”

While Iran insists its nuclear program is intended for peaceful power generation, Petraeus, the head of U.S. Central Command, said “Iranian officials have consistently failed to provide the assurances and transparency necessary for international acceptance and verification.”

Iran refuses to suspend uranium enrichment, in defiance of United Nations Security Council resolutions, and won’t give international inspectors full access to its nuclear facilities.

Iran’s “obstinacy and obfuscation have forced Iran’s neighbors and the international community to conclude the worst about the regime’s intention,” Petraeus told the Senate Armed Services Committee.

9. We started a very bad thing with the Bush Doctrine of preemptive strike. Now we need to stop that.
If Israel launches a preemptive strike against Iran. We must break ties with them. If only because that justify the past preemptive strike by Gaza against Israel and all future preemptive strikes by Arab nation against Israel. Thus Israel will have to preempt the preemptive strike. That in turn causing the Arab nations to preempt the preempting of the preemptive strikes. This process will degrade into total chaos where the skies above the Middle East will be filled with rockets, missiles, and bombs 24/7/365 as both sides are in one stage of a preemption or another.

10. They better be able to finish what they start. By themselves.
There is absolutely no reason American soldiers should shed blood for the state of Israel if they decide to fight a pre-emptive war.

It is shameful that we have done so in Iraq.

The right-wingers and war lovers on this planet will end up killing us all if we don't stop them.

16. Petraeus is FEAR MONGERING. And so, he must be fired.
His bullshit remarks are just Rightwing Dick CheneyEnd-timer crap.

It's time that the rightwing military management gets yanked to a stop by their short-hairs. The whole lot of them need to be brought to full awareness that SELLING FEAR IS NOT THE MILITARY's JOB!!!!!

The only way to do that is to FIRE the offenders. If they want to lobby for the rightwingnuts, let them get paid by the rightwingnuts.

It's time to line them up in front of the boss and hand them their pink slips.

Don't Ask, Just Tell them they are GONE!

Despite years of service, in the end their final "service" was offensive not appreciated.

17. At some point, I realized that if Obama fired all the Bush guys that were dirty
it would be him, Michelle and David Axelrod running the whole government all by themselves.

:(

In order to succeed in his first term, he has to juggle the bastards and survive them. It's like the world's scariest reality show.

18. There are lots of good generals Petraeus wrote a book on insurrection
and having been kissed by Cheney he thinks he is the scion of Mars.

Firing him will make a perfect exhibition of what awaits others who persist in their offensive behavior.

They dont have the luxury of territory to absorb a nuke. And they wont allow another Shoah.
Cant say I blame them...But its their battle to fight, not ours.
