Condoleezza Rice regrets there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq
Source: LA Times

In an appearance on ABC's "The View" this morning, just-departed secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said she regretted that faulty intelligence had reported that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, but had no regrets that U.S. troops toppled dictator Saddam Hussein from power.

...

Rice defended George W. Bush against charges that the federal response to Hurricane Katrina was flawed because Bush didn't want to help the black victims:

What really did make me angry was the implication that some people made that somehow President Bush allowed this to happen because these people were black. And for somebody to say that about the president of the United States, a president of the United States who I know well and a president of the United States who is my friend, I was appalled and I couldn't believe people didn't challenge it.

But Rice, taking pride in the administration's relief aid for Africa, conceded that Katrina was "for my mind, one of the greatest disasters for the administration and for the country."

56. Very true!
My suggestion would have been a baby step (next level spin) to the full truth.

Funny how so many on DU knew full well there were no WMD and saw right through their lies. I guess there are just better minds here than there were in DC... oh God... so scary.

I imagine in the months ahead we will find more of the dirty things that were swept under carpets.

6. See, Condi, the info about WMDs in Iraq really was "historical information based on old reporting".
You and your husb-- should have paid less attention to that information and a lot more to all the warnings you did get before Sept. 11, 2001.

7. Well, looka here, Miss Thing, you can just BE angry
when your "friend" stopped aid trucks outside NOLA that were there johnny-on-the-spot the day after the hurricane with lumber, ice, food, water, supplies, medicine, and everything FEMA couldn't and wouldn't provide, then, yes, he fucking allowed it to happen. When his GOP buddies gloated that they got rid of their, ahem, "housing problem", yes, he allowed it to happen. When his hired-gun Blackwater troops were gunning down civilians for fun in the flooded streets, and nobody has yet to do a goddamn thing about THAT, yes, he allowed it to happen. When he fiddlefarted playing air-guitar and cutting cake and farts with his buddy John McCain when they knew Katrina was on its way with the phones ringing off the hook in DC with no-one answering them because Brownie and crew were doing a heckuva job -- yes, he allowed it to happen.

He allowed it to happen because he didn't give a fuck and the cronies he hired to take a paycheck and not do their jobs were incompetent to do them. He was supposed to be the boss, the final arbiter.

What he was, was as useless as tits on a nun, you got that? That posited, what else could have happened but that he allowed it to happen, whether by design or by his own incompetence. You're free to take your pick. You may also take answer "C", as in "all of the above". There is no other possible explanation.

The people of New Orleans goddam sure weren't free to take a pick, though, Miss Privileged High and Mighty. You wretched, wretched woman; you're as useless as he is; two of a kind. No wonder you claim one another as friends.

No-one else will have you.

35. Oh, lord, don't get me STARTED again
What I wouldn't give to put every single one of those juvenile delinquents in a big detention hall and then set to preachin'. The very thought gets my "mama finger" (the one that enumerates your sins and shakes in your face) and "here's another thing" going. In my dudgeon, I had completely misplaced those shoes. That whole crowd puts a burr under my saddle; never having known a moment's discomfort, a night's worry about how to cover a light bill, a morning with a growling stomach unfed from the day before and no prospect of a meal today. Human suffering is absolutely foreign to them, never even witnessed it, let alone felt it first-hand.

No wonder it was so easy for them to turn their backs on tens of thousands of people in agony. No wonder it was so easy to excuse, even justify torture. No wonder it was so easy for them to waltz in, screw up an entire nation then waltz out again, knowing that "someone else" would be along to clean up their messes just like "someone else" had cleaned up behind them their whole lives.

I heartily doubt that the first one of them knows how to run a washing machine or even make a sandwich. I'd go so far as to wonder if they can wipe their own privileged asses. Five days without their illegal maids and they'd starve or rot to death.

How very nice for them :sarcasm:

For the rest of the real world, there are consequences to actions -- even inaction. It galls me to see a crowd of ever-privileged frat-brats and sorors who've never done an honest day's work in their entire sorry lives to be let off so easily -- as easily as they ever have. They don't even have the decency or the moral character to be decently ashamed or humanly regretful for the damage, the pain, the suffering, the cost they've foisted on the backs of good, moral, willing, upright Americans.

And how dare they make excuses at this late a date? Their knickers are down around their ankles and their backsides are shining -- there is no escaping nor is there any justification for their part in disaster after disaster after disaster.

I'd say "shame on them" but clearly they have none. None at all.

G'd will reckon in Hir own time.

59. NONE of this would have happened without 5 assholes on the Court
As far as I am concerned, Kennedy, Scalia and Thomas should be impeached, removed and then indicted and convicted of treason. They should be punished for all the misery they inflicted!

62. Amen. Starting with that weasel Scalia.
He absolutely knew what he was doing and he knew it was wrong when he was doing it. I'd love to know what the Bushes paid him off with. Pukes never do anything, not even changing their own underwear, unless there's payola in it.

Funny, the squiblet only got a moment's notice on DU that Scalia said that he might want to return to the private sector. Now what would any SC justice want to do that, unless the handwriting was on the wall that a heavily Democratic Congress and a Democratic POTUS were on the way in -- and they might be inclined to look under rocks. If Rove really does get put in the hot-seat, I look for Scalia either to suddenly "take a vacation" outside the country and never come back, or the * Crime Family will add another "suicide" to their body count. Just opining out of the blue, but nothin's for nothin'. Treason, AFAIK, still carries the death penalty, and the entire * family is complicit, along with the "conservative" justices, then entire former cabinet, and a good bit of the Pentagon... and probably 85% of the CIA, seeing as what remains post-Poppy is a Poppy creation.

Poppy himself said so: if most Americans knew what the * family had been up to all these years, we would have hanged the lot of them. Treason, illicit arms and drugs trading, assassinations, dabbling in the affairs of sovereign nations, theft of nuclear devices, a little war here and there, the heisting of an entire national treasury... yeah, they've earned their share of rope and scaffold. Truer words are seldom spoken, Poppy. We most certainly would, if a certain Speaker hadn't taken impeachment off the table. We would gladly have gotten down to the bottom of the cesspool she promised to drain but didn't.

33. I so vicariously enjoyed this post!
So true and so expresses my feelings!! I hope it was as cathartic for you as it was for me! Thanks for the great post, and I agree with you, what an absolute tragedy of human suffering that could have been alleviated if we had had an honest, capable, humane and compassionate president.

Yes, their dumb-ass intelligence was wrong (par for the course with them). The shrub administration couldn't do anything useful, and they sure as hell wouldn't be able to identify or come up with any good solutions.

So that's how come they didn't know that they didn't have to go to Iraq to find a weapon of mass destruction, it was sitting in the White House all along, before January 20th 2009!

And, furthermore, it reeks of war crimes when a nation invades another under false pretenses.

60. They all knew WMD was bullshit
They just bleat about how sorry they are that there were no WMD as a legal formality - they all knew it was a lie.

61. Well technically it probably had nothing to do with their race
It was their poverty. Republicons don't understand, and have no empathy for the poor. The don't give a shit, basically. The Urban poor never vote for THEM, have no money to give THEM, so they don't matter.

And their entire political philosophy is help yourself, don't expect me to do a damn thing for you.

They can't be honest and admit that, though. George Bush doesn't care about POOR people, and did his best to destroy the lower middle class. It's in every damn policy that Obama is trying to change. And it's pretty much a FACT if you look at the country he left behind. But they expect the POOR to be responsible, while nothing is ever the overlords fault.
