Four U.S. Soldiers Charged With Abuse (Iraq)

Four U.S. Soldiers Charged With Abuse

WASHINGTON -- The military has charged four U.S. soldiers with abusing prisoners of war in Iraq. The soldiers and their families deny the accusations.

The four military police from a Pennsylvania-based Army Reserve unit are accused of punching, kicking and breaking bones of prisoners at Camp Bucca, the largest U.S.-run POW camp in Iraq.

The soldiers, charged this month, are the first U.S. troops known to face charges of abusing prisoners during the Iraq conflict.

The military's investigation continues, said Lt. Cmdr. Nick Balice, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command. Balice confirmed four soldiers had been charged as part of that investigation but said he could not release their names.

The soldiers say their actions were in self-defense when Iraqi prisoners attacked them.

3. it sounds similar to Vietnam
no light at the end of the tunnel. The native people want you gone, constant guerrilla ambushes, the troops dont want to be there, they have been lied to about their return/rotation home date several times, its 120 degrees, not enough food and water......

Thats a scenario where low morale leads to a break down in discipline, and bad things happen.

6. I don't want one, but maybe we would be better off with a draft...
...in the event someday that we actually really do need to defend our country from a serious enemy? Not for crap like this, but for a real war where we needed to defend our countries very existence. I mean all of the neat new bombs and toys in the world cannot win this kind of invasion and occupation that has deteriorated into a guerrilla war as this has. I am afraid this weakness of our military has been exposed to the world. The Iraqi's can drive us out if that is what the choose to do. You can bet that the rest of the world has taken notice of this too. No exit strategy here either. What a mess.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A48594-2003Jul25.html

Bob Matsui on capital gang, just said, the US people are going to be demanding we get the troops out of Iraq, if the casualties continue.

Right Bob, and the casualties will continue.

9. DISGUSTING
After a quick bow to the admiring throng, the little rat scurried off the stage, urged on by a hail of tomatoes, rotten fruit and other missiles, hurled by the distaining audience.
