6. Here's the NY Times story from April on this deal...great quote from Diamond
The NY Times reported on this back in April and it makes the relationship between Obama and Rezko seem minuscule beside it.

Here's the "money" quote from Donald Diamond.

Mr. Diamond is close to most of Arizona’s Congressional delegation and is candid about his expectations as a fund-raiser. “I want my money back, for Christ’s sake. Do you know how many cocktail parties I have to go to?”

McCain has also done similar deals for developers Stephen Betts and general gazillionare Carl Linder Jr. Linder was fined 25 million dollars by the US government for supporting Colombian paramilitary groups. He was also a big supporter of the swift boat attacks against Kerry and Charles Keating was one of his proteges (Completing the corruption circle).

Many of McCain's bundlers are big real estate developers calling into question his involvement with the deregulation leading up to the current crisis and his commitment to aiding average Americans in the future.

21. I wish the traditional media would pick these up
The original article came out during the Democratic primary and other than a few major papers, no one really covered them. The articles didn't get the attention they deserved. If these came out on either the cable or network news, it would make clear that McCain's maverick shtick is really a phony image.

11. I went to the dental clinic and the hospital both while I was at Ord.
Can't remember the names of either one.

Took BCT at B/3/3, Feb. - Apr. 1970.

23. Sadly, Stillwell is just about falling into the ocean
Several wings have been razed, and serious shoring-up has been attempted to delay the inevitable. Erosion has done some serious demage to the beach and sand dunes along Fort Ord. Sand mining at the mouth of Salinas river was the main culprit. The mining has stopped, but it will take years and years before Mother Nature repairs herself (water being diverted upstream for farm use isn't helping, either), salads take lots of water).

BCT H33 drafted in '72.

24. Those half dozen beers I had at Stillwell at the end of BCT were
the coldest, best tasting beers I ever can remember drinking.

8 Weeks of eating that dust, breathing CS gas and crawling through those sand burrs might have had something to do with how good the beer was at the end.

I was a US too.

12. McCain helped businessman buy Fort Ord land for a fraction of its market value
Source: The Mercury News

MONTEREY -- An Arizona businessman, with help from Sen. John McCain's office, paid the federal government a mere fraction of the market value when he bought a Fort Ord land parcel in 1999, an Army appraisal obtained by The Monterey Herald shows.

Donald R. Diamond, an 80-year-old real estate developer, lobbyist and top fundraiser for McCain's presidential campaign, bought the land for $250,000, though it was valued at $7.2 million, according to Pentagon appraisals made three years before the sale.

He held on to the parcel for a little more than two years before selling it and the buildings on it for an estimated profit of more than $18 million.
