Palin Selection Surprised Her Staff, Too
Source: Washington Post

Reporters weren't the only ones surprised by Sen. John McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his vice presidential nominee.

Her press secretary was just as clueless.

Bill McAllster, a veteran political reporter who recently became her spokesman, said his home phone in Alaska starting ringing long before dawn after reporters gave up on his Blackberry, which he had turned off.

...

Palin first met McCain in March, McAllister said, when she was in Washington and requested a meeting with McCain about oil drilling in Alaska. McAllister said Palin later talked to McCain for five minutes by phone last Sunday, while she was at the Alaska state fair.

She never expected to be picked because she's unqualified...
Contrast that to Joe Biden, who never expected to be picked because he's overqualified.

30. McCain thinks all women are bimbos
John McCain has a disturbing pattern of treating women as nothing but airheaded, disposable arm candy.

McCain’s first wife, Carol, was a swimwear model, not the most respectful “job” for a woman. He displayed her with pride to his buddies, flaunting her sexuality as if “having” her made him a man.

And when Carol was disfigured and crippled in a car accident, McCallous had affairs with numerous women, finally settling on a rodeo beauty queen 18-years-his-junior. He married Cindy, the silicone-chested, botox-faced beer heiress before the ink was dry on the divorce from his first wife. Cindy became a well-known drug addict.

Now he picks Sarah Palin as his running mate, a vacuous former beauty queen whose qualifications include competing in the Miss Alaska pageant.
Apparently, McLame thinks women are so dumb that we’ll vote for him simply because he picked someone with a vagina as his running mate.

Someone should have told him he was supposed to be picking a vice presidential candidate, not his third wife.
More on his treatment of women:

2. i feel kind of sorry
for her in a way (but just a tinsy tiny bit). #1 if the voters don't buy the republicans decrepit crap, she may have lost whatever political career she has, #2 being a novice, i don't think she realizes what she is getting into in terms of national politics - her life is no longer her own, and #3 she is just being used by men who probably detest her anyway - even if the poopheads win, she will just be a stooge.

6. I don't feel sorry for her at all.
She supports shooting wolves from helicopters. She's against gay rights and against women's right to choose abortion. I don't know how she even got elected governor since her previous government experience consists of being mayor of a small town in Alaska. She has no advanced degrees, just an undergraduate degree in journalism. She's a former beauty queen. She married her high school boyfriend when she got pregnant and it looks like her youngest child is actually her teenage unwed daughter's baby. Despite all her "family values" beliefs she thought nothing of going back to work three days after supposedly giving birth to a special needs baby.

She's a total hypocrite who wants to take all my rights away on the basis of my sex and my sexuality. I don't feel sorry for her. I want her to go away. Run her own life, not mine.

22. I agree with you on almost everything, but...
Who the fuck cares about whether or not she has ANY advanced degrees? If having advanced degrees -- or a degree at all for that matter -- meant a damn thing about judgment and the ability to lead then we wouldn't be in the mess we're in now. That comment makes your post smack of elitist snobbery. Not to mention, is there a logical disconnect in relation to the fact that many in the Bush administration have advanced degrees from prestigious schools and what good has it done them or, more importantly, the American people?

7. This is almost straight out of "Commander-in-Chief"
Geena Davis' President Allen was an Independent tapped to be a Republican VP only because of her appeal to female voters. She was given nothing to do after they won and they tried to force her to resign after the President died. Aside from the Independent thing, this is the same script.

27. Geena Davis occured to me, too...
"Commander in Chief" lasted about three months before it was cancelled. That's probably about two months longer than Sarah Palin will get. My money is on her bowing out for "personal reasons".

28. She knows she's being used
Sure, McCain is using her, and she is smart enough to know that. But remember, this is a woman who is so politically ambitious that she didn't immediately get to a hospital or fly home from Texas to Alaska when her water broke. First, she gave her speech to the governors' conference. THEN she flew home and delivered her baby. A political party that puts such emphasis on motherhood and family values should be horrified hearing this, and what's she doing running for VP anyway -- with an infant and three other kids at home? If she does win this election, look for her snowmobiling-dog-racing husband to lose his flipping mind having to live in Washington and take care of those kids.

17. LOL!!!
I believe you're right , er correct - I hate to call ANYONE "Right" of late. That is unless they're wrong! - This VP pick is yet one more shard of evidence that McCain's NOT qualified to lead. This is akin to going to war and putting a short order cook in command!

Can you even IMAGINE how the REAL Rethugs are groaning as to this command decision???:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Keep those little confidence-building decisions coming. Keep demonstrating your amazing powers of incisiveness and depth of perception. Your base will love ya for it.

Trust me.

Just in case someone hasn't been hit with the clue stick yet: :sarcasm:

who will talk him into making a better choice? This is like chimpy insisting on Harriet Miers.

"We need a woman! Who do we know who's a woman? Hey, Sarah, you're a woman, right?"

Can you say "TOKEN"?

It's so dumb, too; there are some pretty reputable Republican women he could have picked. Of course, they're all pro-choice . . .

You'd think that McCain would at least arrange a face-to-face before committing himself to choosing her. But then again, it is McCain, and he is desperate and impulsive.

This is actually terrifying to me. What if they Republicans steal this election or talk enough people into voting McInsane into office? What if he dies while in office?

21. "What if he dies while in office?"
Much rejoicing would happen, I expect. Relatively speaking, I would trust her finger on the nuclear button before I'd trust McCain's. She doesn't have the anger management issues he has, for one.

25. Am I the only one who thinks McCain is taking a dive?
This whole thing is starting to remind me of the Mondale-Ferraro campaign in '84.

Now, I mean no disrespect to Ms. Ferraro in the least. And I'm not equating her with Ms. Palin, but Mondale always struck me as a placeholder in that campaign. Take one for the team.

McCain is doing the "No Mas" this year, and the GOP will try to groom a "real" candidate (Jeb? Shudder!) in 2012.

29. This is it. And why they didn't want to "waste" Pawlenty (the most logical Veep choice)
on an election that is doomed to fail. Either that, or McSame and crew are so profoundly stupid we should be appalled to think they could ever dream of getting to the WH.
