Al-Qaeda No.2 issues video in English
Edited on Sun Aug-10-08 06:09 PM by cal04
Source: The Australian

AYMAN al-Zawahiri, the second-in-command to al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, has released his first English-language video call for jihad in Pakistan, US intelligence analysts say.

The message was aired on Pakistan's ARY television network, the US-based IntelCentre said.

It marked "the first official message ever ... in which he speaks English".

Zawahiri "calls for the people to support jihad in Pakistan and lists a litany of grievances against the Pakistani Government and US involvement there", said IntelCentre, a private US company that monitors extremist websites and communications.

so now he speaks english? and he's not dead
Zawahiri was briefly rumoured to have died in a July 28 missile strike in Pakistan, but US intelligence and Pakistan's Taliban movement subsequently denied the reports.

14. Nah, you're thinking of Number 3.
He's been killed about a dozen times.

I think they got number 2, only 3 or 4 times.

10. Zero.
Unless you confuse "al-Qa'ida in Iraq" with central "al-Qa'ida".

Surely no bias there...

so, what exactly is the CIA and NASA and State Dept. doing, if they have contracted out world terror monitoring?

Does anyone really believe this stuff any more? Can't they come up with some better, not-so-obvious propaganda?

11. I'd assume he knew English.
He has his bachelor's degree, at a time when English would have probably been the language of instruction at higher ed in Egypt, or at the very least something that he'd be expected to study, and is a surgeon. Or was. He apparently got high marks (but not the highest possible). He made a speaking tour in the US in the '90s, allegedly (and that I have no reason to doubt--it's a neutral enough claim, with the stipulation that his tour flopped).

As for his death, all that can be determined from the tape is that it's after February '08. I haven't heard anybody say there's so much as a hint that it's after 7/28/08, which is what would be needed as proof he's alive after the raid.

I don't think he was killed in the raid; but this tape isn't anything like proof that he wasn't killed in July.

13. sounds like Osama bin Laden is dead
since Musharref is getting impeached, they're probably hoping the ISI will foment a fundie coup. That would be a new fresh hell.

I don't know if this video is real or not, but there's certainly a reason for it in light of events in Pakistan. That situation is WAAAAAAY more important than anyone's opinion about a former presidential candidate.

Calling for jihad in Pakistan?

in Pakistan ?
How many in Pakistan speak English? A more 'affluent" class educated ? Whats wrong with the foreign language classes taught in the madrassas ? I know they blow up girls schools every chance they get but pushing for jihad in Pakistan civilized areas ? I guess they need to upgrade their slogan;
"a mine is a terrible thing to waste".

imo
their world is shrinking if citizens of Pakistan are turning on them and becoming hostile or worse, indifferent with funding their movement.

They got their jihad on in China but... news isn't all that good for team AQ.
And the way Russia has been acting lately, I wonder if they are waiting for an excuse to hit more "break away's" while their warming up in Georgia.

The missile strike on July 28th ? imo, it knocked a few #3's out of competition.

19. Who is this tape aimed at?
Edited on Mon Aug-11-08 12:45 PM by happyslug
While the ruling elite of Pakistan speak Urdu, The Pustans in the Mountains (Where Bin Laden is hiding) speak "Pashto", but Pashto is spoken by about only 15% of the population of Pakistan. Less then 10% of the population speaks Urdu (and most of the speakers are descendent's of people who moved from the rest of India at the time of the Partition of India in 1947). The official language and the "Lingua franca" of Pakistan (and India for that matter) is English.

On Pashto:

Map of Pashto and its related languages (Including Farsi, in the map below called "Persian":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pashto_language

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_of_Pakistan

Given that the language of the ARMY and the Courts of Pakistan is ENGLISH who is this speech aimed at? The lawyers? the Army? or both? It is NOT at the ruling elite for it would then be in Urdu, it is NOT for the common people for then it would be in Punjabi (Spoken by about 45% of the people of Pakistan).
