Republican Hagel Blasts McCain Attacks on Obama
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 12:18 PM by Mark E. Smith
Source: ABC News

July 27, 2008

Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb, this morning criticized two attacks his friend, fellow Republican, fellow
Vietnam veteran and Senate Russell Building next-door neighbor Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz, launched
against Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, this week.

On CBS's Face the Nation this morning, host Bob Schiefffer asked Hagel about McCain's claim that
"Senator Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a campaign."

"I think John is treading on some very thin ground here when he impugns motives and when we start
to get into, 'You're less patriotic than me. I'm more patriotic,'" Hagel said.

Given Obama's now 9 point lead in the Gallup Poll, I wonder how soon McCain's handlers will try and
peel him back from his cranky arm-waving old man routine. Obviously this is not working out for him.

3. Many Democrats are more shell shocked
and more nervous nellies.

5. Or they don't mean it when they merely mouth the words of support.

2. I saw the video, and it was NOT a "blast"--it was a gentle, sad shaming--
"John's better than that"--which is actually more effective, because everyone knows he and McShitbag are old friends.

4. I would like to know how in the hell McCain can work across the aisle or work with
democrats if he were President after basically calling one of them a traitor because more or less that is what he is doing when he says he doesn't want to win the war. That is a hell of a way to try and work with congress.

6. The Senate Dems should have screamed bloody murder and demanded an apology--
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 12:34 PM by wienerdoggie
Obama is a sitting Senator. McCain accused him of treason. What would the GOPers have done if the situation was reversed? (Not that it ever would be).

7. The GOP would have been standing up in the senate demanding an apology for calling one of their own
a fellow senator a "traitor" and probably the dems would have done it.

11. Isn't it hilarious....
Edited on Sun Jul-27-08 02:12 PM by WyldRogue
...that the DEMS didn't stand up for Obama during these shameful attacks on him but they sure did line up rather quickly and denounce Moveon.org when the Repugs went on a tirade over their AD about someone who's is NOT a Senator nor RUNNING for POTUS.

I mean, they can't/won't stand up for one of their own????

Hate to say it but this crop of Dems we elected into power in 2006 are totally worthless.

12. It is striking, isn't it. What spineless creatures. Just hoping to get re-elected
and keep the perks and the power with a minimum of friction, without ever having to be courageous or stick their necks out for the benefit of the party and the country.

10. I HATE those headlines
I see them about 10 times a day and they never amount to a "blasting" but headlines sell papers (even in the online world)

9. Can't win
No matter what OBama does the McCain and his right wingers, and so Called phony TRUE PATRIOTIC and to me Americans will cry and complain,no matter what. They cried, complained, and said he was not qualified to be pez because he had not been to
Iraq, spoke to generals to se the situation on the ground and all that,so the just about forced him to go,now he went, and because it was successful, they are all crying and complaining that he is acting presidential,he has stepped over the line, and some even feel now he should not have gone on that rip,how can he win with them?
All this I see,as thinly veiled anger and resentment,of an outsider invading their hallowed turf of supreme power, and they don't like it one bit.
So it does not surprise.
Also as a disabled Viet Nam Infantry Vet,I find McCain unqualified and unfit to hold the office of prez.He is no Hero as far as I am concerned, dropping bombs from miles up in the skies compare with those like me on the ground walking through swamps, booby traps, and picking up pieces and parts of your buddies on the ground.
I Think it sad thing that we glorify war.Thats all McCain has going for him,so everything has to be tied into security, defense, and American strategic Interest .
I am already sick of him touting that damn surge, as if it is something to be proud of.
Without the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq, that did nothing to us, there would be no need for a SURGE in Iraq,so McCain flapping his Gums about that, does not and should not resonate, because he was part of those who supported the initial illegal invasion based on lies deceit and greed.
Also as a Black man,I did not initially support Obama or any of the the three candidates in the race
But personally what I can see and detect,is a very sizable resentment by many to Obamas efforts for the office of prez, who uses so many excuses and guise, to cover their real deep seated negative feeling.
McCain and the righwing is crying about media coverage how Obama is getting too much, they did not mind when all the coverage was about REV Wright God Damn America 24/7 Morning noon and night, over and over and over for about a month or more,or as long as that coverage was negative, but now that the coverage is mostly neutral or positive, they are crying that the media is in
love with Obama.
I can see Obama is going to have a very difficult time, but so far it seems to me he is moving forward even with all he has faced and is still facing from this controlled US media,
there might be enough good people to help pull him through, those who are not afraid and is looking forward to some kind of change

15. To me, what Hagel has been saying regarding the presidential campaign in recent weeks
constitutes "maverick" more than anything McCain has done since Bush has been president.

Why don't the media gerbils consider hanging that label on Hagel?

Why aren't they roaring like lions and tigers about this? What a bunch of pathetic turds.
