3. nice to see the AARP crowd
endorsing kerry. any democrats under the age of 80 going to endorse him?

sorry, fritz and fritz, but your days are in the past. mr. mondale, you were vice president a generation ago and were a sacrificial lamb for your party in '84. with all due respect, your endorsement isn't earth shaking.

who are the younger politicians going to go with? the guys who can still piss a decent stream?

4. Did you know Kerry won the youth vote in Iowa - 35% to Dean's 20%?
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 03:04 PM by blm
Kerry must be reaching more young people than some realize.

5. I don't suppose you happen to know which age group votes the most?
I have a hint for you: it ain't younger voters.

6. What a Disgusting Sentiment
If I were you I'd keep such statements to myself. They give you away. I have a feeling you won't be around here long.

9. EXACTLY what I was thinking colonel odis!
I don't decry Mondale's support on account of his age but due to the fact that not only did he get whipped in 1984 but he couldn't even beat smarmy Coleman after Wellstone died.

Mondale is a corporate Dem (he once served and may still serve on the board of United Healthcare..this I know because I worked there at one time).

I see a Mondale endorsement as an albatross around Kerry's neck. The pugs will paint him in the worse possible light.

20. Not counting that the repukes shipped in millions of dollars
And that Mondale only had like a week to get his campaign legs. Smarmy Coleman should not have won and I still think there were some dirty tricks played that are unknown. Anyway that is another story and Mondale is still well respected in these parts. MN

11. didn't mean to offend
i'm only a couple of years from aarp membership myself. and i'm well aware that older voters vote in higher percentages.

it's great that kerry scores so well with younger voters. but i believe endorsements from younger democrats -- bayh, bredesen, cantwell, corzine, landrieu -- would be interesting. no offense to the party's elder statesmen, but they're, well, elder.

sorry my post offended some.

16. For heaven's sake odis, do you hate the elderly that much
Be careful of what you say, there are a lot of us elderly who are out there working our hindends off for the democratic candidates. We don't complain about some of you still being wet behind the ears.
Do you even know what that means?

if he was old enough he would certainly be a big consideration for vp for any of the candidates. i'm 25 myself and i love kerry.

7. Kerry does need to move beyond Antiques Roadshow
While I respect the thankless task Mondale took on in 1984, we have to remember that this is ANOTHER voice from the past, like Teddy. Plus, these guys have high negatives among independents.

If Kerry wants to really be noticed, he needs to get the backing from some younger, rising stars in the Party like Harold Ford, Mary Landrieu, Evan Bayh, or Bill Richardson.

One final thought: If Mike Dukakis (whose campaign I worked on) endorses Kerry, HE'S DOOMED. We saw last night that the Pubs are going to use Kerry = Dukakis in lifts as their strategy if Kerry wins the nomination.

22. Mondale...sigh
A man of principle, intellect, and all the charisma of a pickle. Does he see something of himself in Kerry?

I certainly respect Walter; but his contribution to the Democratic Party should have remained behind the scenes, out of the limelight, where he could have done less mortal damage than is his legacy.

(Mind, had the party not ghettoized Wellstone -- had it instead prepared a successor -- then we in Minnesota would not have had to make the ghastly choice of hurriedly demumifying Mondale in 2002 for his abortive 11th hour run.)

26. Son of Fritz (Ted) is working for Dean
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 04:03 PM by jean

Ted Mondale pins his hopes on Dean

Exerpt: “What's a shrewd high-tech entrepreneur, former Ventura administration Metropolitan Council chair, former neoliberal suburban legislator, and son of the 1984 Democratic standard-bearer doing in the camp of Howard the Can't-Win Insurgent?

::snip::

Recruiting volunteers like mad to knock on doors in Iowa next weekend, Mondale said last week. And reviving the DFL Party in the process.

As for that can't-win rap, Mondale contends that the big-time pundits and Karl Rove have it wrong. He argues that the former Vermont governor is the only candidate in the Democratic field who has a prayer of unseating George W. Bush.”

I wonder if Eleanor is lending her luminosity to any of the candidates?
