Rice Says No Interest in Veep Spot
Source: San Francisco Chronicle/AP

Condoleezza Rice's name on the Republican ticket is a dream to some, but not a reality she can see happening.

The secretary of State told reporters Friday she will not be a vice presidential candidate in the upcoming election.

"I have always said that the one thing that I have not seen myself doing is running for elected office in the United States," she said at a news conference to discuss her recent trip to Africa. "I didn't even run for high school president. It's sort of not in my genes."

Instead, Rice told reporters: "You can all come and visit me in California."

Aww too bad - would love to see a good Dem VP candidate shred your overrated hype and incompetent record. I'm in the middle of reading "The Commission" (book about the 9-11 commission) and how Zoelick protected you and the Bush Admin. You were the one who demoted Richard Clarke and ignored all his frantic warnings that Al Qaeda was about to attack!

2. That's great news, because ...

speculation was that if Obama won the nomination,
then McCain was going to choose either Gen. Colin Powell or
SOS Condi Rice, to try and split the African-American vote.

I honestly believe that Colin Powell does not want
to run for any public office.

So Condi saying no, who else is left?

Opps, double negative.

5. I'm pretty sure Alan Keyes would consider it.
He'd certainly make McCain look saner by comparison.

9. SoS Rice and Gen. Powell won't run because...
they're convinced the Republican base would assassinate them.

Senator McCain needs to be very careful who he picks for VP; if he picks someone the Base likes better than him and wins...

10. I'm still not ruling out Mitt
Interesting that he merely "suspended" his campaign rather than a full-on withdrawal. He was also the anointed one by the BFEE. Either he'll be "anointed" VP, gambling that if elected or selected, McCain will die in office, or, McCain implodes in some way before the convention, and Mitt becomes the chosen one.
Just my opinion :tinfoilhat:

13. He suspended because that allows him to ...
keep his delegates and keep the money raised for his campaign.
Edwards did the same for the same reason.

The campaign finance laws in this country are really bizarre.
If you know them, you can get away with a lot of money.

I'm sure Edwards and Romney each have campaign finance attorneys,
and have been advised to take this course of action.

12. If I am nominated by any party for the VP slot in 2008, I shall not accept it.
That is on the record, even though I was voted "wittiest" in my senior high school class, back at Loretto High in 1979 and won a 3 year vestry seat at my parish in NY.
I am sorry to disappoint all my supporters out there, all of you who have floated my name and formed the exploratory committees, I haven't actually been in contact with any of you, or know exactly what web presence you keep, but I am sure you are out there! God Bless the United States of America. Si queremos, podemos.

14. The scrutiny of an election would destroy her
She has so many skeletons in her closet. Not too mention being in the closet - which would cause 1/2 the Republicans to stay home.

17. That's the most well reasoned thing I've ever heard her say.
If one is incompetant and knows it, one does not stand for election - it would go badly. They only way Condi is going to get anything is to be appointed.
