New Jersey college under lockdown after bomb threat

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — St. Peter's College locked down its campus today after receiving e-mails saying bombs were planted in campus buildings, authorities said.

Fire Chief William Sinnott said the action was taken as a precaution after the school received e-mails from one or more "disgruntled" students. Authorities said they were taking the threat seriously, especially coming so soon after a gunman killed five students and himself at Northern Illinois University last week.

"Right now we're going building by building. We're doing the outside, the inside," police Lt. Edgar Martinez told WABC-TV in New York. "We take it very seriously because of everything that has happened nationally."

...

It was the second lockdown at a New Jersey college this month. Seton Hall University in South Orange was locked down Feb. 11 after a student's ex-boyfriend shot himself in the stomach.

1. Much ado about nothing
I live a block from campus. Threatening e-mails were received and the police felt obliged to evacuate the school.

Initially, there was a report of a shooter on campus, but that proved to be unfounded

3. That doesn't make sense. The school receive a bomb threat
and locks the students in! Why were they not evacuated?

4. It must be midterm exam time
This is nothing new. I went to Rutgers and people were calling in bomb threats way back in 1970.

5. I guess the disgruntled student(s) should have waited a couple months before....

The stupid authorities would not have taken the threats seriously had they waited.

I wouldn't want to be in a stupid lockdown if there was potentially a bomb on campus.

Get me the hell out of there.
