Former President Bush endorses McCain
Source: MSNBC

HOUSTON - Former President George H.W. Bush has endorsed Sen. John McCain's bid for the Republican presidential nomination.

Bush, speaking with McCain at his side in Texas Monday, said the Arizonan has "character forged in the crucible of war" and said he thought McCain was best prepared to lead the nation in the future.

Bush said the United States does not have "the luxury of taking a pass" on its responsibilities in an increasingly complex world.

McCain said he was honored to have the former president's backing.

2. So much for "distancing himself from Bush"...
The current headline story at Huffington Post is "McCain's Advisors: Don't Appear Too Close To Bush"

4. There is no way....
There is no way McCain would ever pick Jeb as his running mate.

1) The name BUSH will forever be hated.

2) If he did get elected with Jeb you can bet your ass McCain would be dead in a matter of days from weird circumstances.

19. the double edged endorsement
needs the bushies backing to reel in the few still drinking smirk-boy's kool-aid, but doesn't want to get too close and lose independents/moderates

which is all the more reason for Obama and Clinton to change the focus of their campaigns and draw the contrasts between themselves and mccain.

Start the "meme": McCain = More of the SAME

mcCain is the presumptive GOPer nominee, the remainder of the GOPer primaries amounts to running the bases after you've hit the ball out of the park. Going through the motions with no fear of being tagged out.

Although it is technically still a primary - McCain is really running a GE campaign. This means he has a 4 month head start on whoever the dem nominee will be.

He has 4 months to hone and frame and spin his attack messages.
