Polls indicate Iowa race a 4-way tie among '04 Dems

Friday, January 16, 2004 Posted: 2:47 PM EST (1947 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Bush-Cheney re-election campaign will send a high-profile team of surrogates to both Iowa and New Hampshire in the coming days to train and motivate Republican activists and to "show the flag" in states in which the Democratic presidential race has dominated political debate -- and news media coverage.

Among those headed to Iowa this weekend: former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist. (CNN.com's interactive Election Calendar)

Bush-Cheney campaign chief Marc Racicot, campaign manager Ken Mehlman, Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie, White House political adviser Mary Matalin, Colorado Gov. Bill Owen, Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, Ohio Congressman Rob Portman and Bush-Cheney campaign operative Ralph Reed also are on tap to travel to Iowa.

Campaign spokesman Terry Holt said the group will take part in training sessions and pep rallies with Republican activists as well as media interviews to "show the flag" at a time most of the attention is on the Democrats. (On the Scene: CNN's Bob Franken in Iowa)

"Show the flag" or wrap themselves in it?

2. Virginia's primary
In Virginia, any registered voter may vote in the Democratic Primary. I don't doubt that republicans plan to skew the numbers.

Which of the democratic candidates do you think the republican voters will give their unified support?

6. The Repukes Don't Know Who To Vote For
they are all over the map on who they plan to "set-up". first it was Al Sharpton, blah, blah, blah.. then it was Rove's "yes, that's the one we want" Dean propaganda.. but here we are, 3 days away from the first state's primary (ok.. caucus) and none of them are rooting for one single candidate.. infact, (and I've been looking at FR) none of those idiots seem to care who wins because they're so confident the nosepicker in chief will steal another election and be declared king of the world.

Since there's no one voice telling them who to vote for it looks like it'll be a free for all and their votes won't mean a bit of difference. i honestly think they're too lazy to get their asses out of bed to vote in the dem primary anyway.

7. I am so sick of this flag waving BS the repukes are always doing.
Why can't dems carry the flag and why don't we? Shouldn't we be calling them on their false sense of patriotism? If they want to slam democrats for waving the flag, can't we retort "the heart of patriotism is the ability to offer dissent against the prez., to have a voice that is different from the "power"? I am so sick of the flags on the lapels, the flags behind the idiot, the flags waving, as if the flag ONLY belongs to the rethuglicans.

14. The flag belongs to us, too.

Don't assume that only ditto-heads display the flag. I am proud to display the flag. I have just as much right to the flag as any mush-for-brains neo-clone.

15. Yes it does.
I saw a great American flag bumper sticker tonight in Arlington that read "THESE COLORS DON'T RUN, the world". The same car also had a Dean bumper sticker. In fact, a lot of the cars in the parking lot had Dean, Clark, or Kerry stickers.
