Gov't official(Israel): No 'smoking gun' on Iran
Source: Jerusalem Post

Israel does not have "smoking gun" intelligence that will force an American reassessment of its National Intelligence Estimate that Iran halted its nuclear weapons plan in 2003, a government official told The Jerusalem Post Monday.

The official's comments came as a delegation from Military Intelligence is in the US for meetings with American officials about Iran.

Another diplomatic official labeled as either "very arrogant" or "naive" the idea that all Israel had to do was reveal one piece of information to get the US intelligence community to say it erred and will "take it all back and follow Israel's line."

The official said it was clear that the Americans pretty much know what Israel knows about the Iranian nuclear program and that the difference is not over the facts but rather over their interpretation.

2. The Jewish newspapers
are all running the Israeli policy response to the US document. It is one basically of dismay, surrender to the unlikelihood of the US doing anything, trying to keep Iran isolated, blockaded and seen as the oncoming nuclear train Israel fears. Finally, a hint of Israel going it alone which still sounds like a goad to the US to intervene.

The entire aggressive policy toward their neighbors is not working, most likely can't work. To work there would have to be weakness in the Mideast without big money, chaos and organized hostility. Once engaged in policies that made those threats even worse the end result would more likely be more deeply rooted hostility, hard hits from out of the chaos despite tragically automatic nuclear retaliation and MORE aggressive policies of war and genocide that hopefully Israel is long past its prime to be tempted by. ALL roads of violence and many harrowing roads of peace or detente lead to the end of Israel as a religious state and the blowback of perhaps another long exile forced on Jewish citizens. After those who voluntarily leave decimate the strength of the failed policies the main status quo peace path would lead to the swift outnumbering of the still growing Arab populations. As sad as that might be that difficult losing scenario would preserve life- which what you are supposed to choose over simply spilling blood into chosen earth. Dirt is pretty neutral. We all have a plot somewhere that ends all our plots and plans.

Then there is nuclear trap that Israel had to enter because it had to choose the aggressive approach. Without world support for peace over the influence of big oil and Cold War vote carryovers it could easily be argued they had no chance or choice, but choice they made. The nuclear choice escalates then freezes choice. The price of Armageddon options is having to remove dangers and find stability at any price. Bush has effectively destroyed the viability of all such options. We could have told them so. The Bush/Cheney agenda was never to the future interests of Israel, nor could it have been played for very long. Nukes make all clever gains fragile, all things less than disarmament and hard peace, a march toward a crisis and a hamstringing of all hopes. Nor do they(I suppose the disastrous Jewish leadership) ask to change the road they are on. All these traps, in the fascist businesses, the Arab anti-Semitism, the organized attacks against Israel and in Israel's aggressive policies, were set by Hitler. Evil is alive and well and thrives in hard line "pragamtism" that will not expunge the disease.

Into this mess comes the next US president whom the GOP intends to be another mass murderer.
