(Tony) Snow says Bush is 'vindicated' by progress in Iraq
Source: AP

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow defends his former boss' record in Iraq, saying recent military progress should vindicate President Bush.

Snow spoke to reporters before a scheduled dinner and speech at Oklahoma Christian University tonight.

He says history will show that Bush's decisions on Iraq policy were the correct ones.

...

Snow didn't say much when asked about excerpts from an upcoming book by Scott McClellan, his predecessor as the White House press secretary.

In one excerpt released November 20th, McClellan blamed Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney for efforts to mislead the public about the role of White House aides in leaking the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame.

He says he's not going to speculate about premature leaks of a book that isn't even printed.

until the lie sinks in and finally becomes the false truth.

It's not me who said it. Commander AWOL bushcher-of-baghdad did.

4. No it won't
Success in Iraq won't change the fact that the whole war was based on bullshit.

5. And really, what kind of "success" can it be?
Warlords and theocracy, brutal death squads, and vastly expanded Iranian influence. Some success.

24. Not to mention that any "progress" in Iraq has been way too little too late
He and his subordinates failed to listen to and sacked a General for (apparently) speaking the truth about how many troops would be needed to maintain order and stability in the post-invasion period in Iraq not to mention specifically prohibited anybody from attempting to learn anything from the several studies done that could've helped prepare the US for stabilizing Iraq after removing Saddam. Bush then literally did next to nothing to change strategies for 3 years and many of the problems in Iraq have been largely exacerbated, if not directly caused by, our invasion and bungled occupation. Bush didn't even try anything "new" until after the GOP "rout" of 2006 and even his new "strategy" (if it can even be called one) basically only amounted to him sending several hundred thousand more troops over to Iraq under the leadership of his latest handpicked General. Now, Bush et. al are claiming all kinds of progress and "vindication" despite the fact that the primary purpose of the "surge", specifically political reconciliation, has NOT been realized and, in fact, Bush's apparent expectations ("benchmarks") for such reconciliation have been scaled back so far so as to have become virtually meaningless.

BTW: Couldn't agree more with your post.

6. Actually, no
It isn't because of Bush that things are 'better' in Iraq. Wars end. People get sick of it and stop.

This isn't about Bush's leadership. It's more about the people of Iraq getting sick of the bloodshed.

Or it just may be a lull in the violence. We shall see.

Is what we have left any better than what was there? Is there any kind of lasting stability? Too soon to declare Bush the hero on this one.

7. Would you praise an arsonist who stayed to help hold the firehose?
Edited on Thu Nov-29-07 11:47 PM by wienerdoggie
He will never, ever, EVER get any credit from me for starting a needless war--not one iota. I hope he burns in hell.

edit--not arguing with you, just adding my own thoughts.

8. Not to be misunderstood here...
I give Bush credit for NOTHING (but grief, loss of life, destablization of the region, etc.)

But wars end regardless of who started them. They just do. Bush gets no credit if this one peters out. Wars end because people get sick of it.

9. No, I agree with you. I was just venting. I do think the Iraqi people
are just trying to cope and get on with their lives, and a lot of the violence has run its course because most neighborhoods are segregated now, al Sadr isn't causing trouble with his militia, and we're bribing the Sunnis. No one in America should ever be proud of this episode in our history, and certainly not ChimpCo--for any reason.

10. I think a good analogy would be
praising the arsonist who fanned the flames but took credit when the fire burned itself out for lack of kindling. Just being present isn't grounds for glory.

13. I just can't believe
you use the words bush and credit in the same sentence. This fascist pig is pouring our country down the drain for his war profiteer buddies and doing so on the bodies of our soldiers, thousands and thousands of Iraqis, the security of our country and the freedoms given to us by our constitution. There should be nothing but contempt for this miserable excuse for a human being.

Edited on Fri Nov-30-07 07:53 AM by ixion
He has LIED LIED LIED every single day and LIED about single thing, and yet he should be vindicated... for what? For the cholera that is spreading around Baghdad? Or should be be vindicated for the Iraqis who still live in constant fear of being executed?

I think the word snowjob was looking for is "indicted", because I see nothing to worthy of vindication.

20. Nothing can vindicate Bu*h for his war crimes. We invaded Iraq
without provocation, and with absolutely no justifiable reason for the invasion.

Tony Snow has spent a good portion of his life getting paid to deliberately lie.

Praise be. Thank you Tony, Tony and your flying monkeys at Fox. Thank you Fearless Leader, Dead-Eye Dick, The Rubberstamp Republican Congress, the Defense Contractor Cabal, Condi, Rummy, Wolfie, Carbone, Yoo, Judith - you have been vindicated! Your policies were absolutely correct and you will get full credit for them. History and your grandchildren will sing your praises. 4 more years of Republican rule! Print another trillion! Crank up the cannon fodder machine! Empower a few more piratized American warlords like Erik Prince! Invade another country! It's time to bring back, "WE'RE NUMBER ONE! We're winning!

28. The lyrics of Dear Mr President all should read and
also click the link and read or sing along. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITZZ6-qCYIE

Dear Mr. President"
(feat. Indigo Girls)

Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me.
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.

What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?

Dear Mr. President,
Were you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We're not dumb and we're not blind.
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell.

What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye?

Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh

How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President,
You'd never take a walk with me.
Would you?
