Gillermann implores U.S. to prevent Ahmadinejad visit to UN
Source: Haaretz

Israeli UN Ambassador Dan Gillerman has urged the U.S. administration to deny the participation of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the opening session of the United Nations 62nd General Assembly next week in New York City.

"It is the obligation of the American legal authorities to prevent his entrance into the United States and if he does enter, to arrest him and try him for incitement to genocide and aiding and abetting terrorists who kill American soldiers in Iraq," Gillerman told Haaretz
Wednesday.

Gillerman also protested to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon over Ahmadinejad's plan to attend the session.

The Iranian president is to address the General Assembly on September 25, the first day of the general debate, which is to be opened by President George W. Bush.

11. No, it isn't legal. Treaty trumps everyting: supreme law of the land, per the Constitution.
That is why in old West Florida the treaties between Spain and the UK had full civil rights for freed slaves which the US had to assume with the treaty that brought West Florida into the US. That means that the free blacks in Mobile and Pensacola had to be accorded full civil rights -- a sore point for many then at the time.

12. No, this is just ignorant blather.
Iran is not at war with anyone, unlike certain other parties. This is somewhat like the US trying to exclude the Soviets from the UN, which I am glad to say the US never had the chutzpah to do. Peacekeeping organizations are not worth much if you exclude your enemies. On the other hand, there were various Amurkin blowhards that would advocate such things from time to time.

3. Hey Gillerman, Shut up!
 Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is no more crazy or blood thirsty or a religious fanatic than your buddy "president" George W. Bush. They are nearly exactly the same type of politician, just different religions!

So if we block Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to be "fair and balanced," the UN would also need to block George W. Bush and then, while they are at it, your President or your Prime Minister and then the President or PM of Syria, etc., etc....

It's the U. F*cking N.! The U.N. is a place we have set up so that the nations of the world can have direct talks and debates with each other on neutral soil, so if you don't want to talk with them, shut the hell up and don't talk with them, we'll all be over here.

4. And just who the f*ck does Gillermann think he is??
We have already insulted this man by restricting a head of state from paying respect to Ground Zero. Get real!! This is a country that mourned for our loss...before bozo referred to them as "the axis of evil". What a bird brain for a preznit we are stuck with.

6. I would be so quick to defend Ahmadinejad....
Don't get me wrong, Gillerman's comments are proof positive he has his head up his ass.

However, I would disregard any of Ahmadinejad's so-called humanitarian diatribes. Modern Iranian "diplomacy" plays the Persian hospitality card quite vigorously, and is often duplicitous. Ever since the Iran Hostage Crisis in 1979, the United States has not had normalized relations with Iran, and Ahmadinejad was most likely aware than he would be barred from visiting Ground Zero, which is precisely why he asked. He put on a pretty face, politely offered his condolences, we rebuffed, and he walked away looking like the good guy. This way, the masses are a little more enthusiastic when chanting "Maghbar A'mrika!" every Friday night.

The Iranian people may very well have been upset, as they've always struck me as a particularly friendly lot (at least in my limited experience), but Ahmadinejad is essentially the George W. Bush of Iran. He's a liar and a schmuck, and there ain't no two ways about it.

7. Ahmadinejad is the head of state of a sovereign nation.
He has the right, by treaty, to travel to and from the UN under full diplomatic immunity. This has nothing to do with what anyone thinks of Ahmadinejad, it is a simple matter of respect for international law.

14. I wasn't referring to his UN visit...
... I was referring to his phony request for a visit to Ground Zero.

We have no right to bar him from visiting the UN, but the rules of diplomacy clearly state that we, as a sovereign nation, are under no obligation to allow Ahmadinejad to enter the United States proper. The rules stipulate that if the host nation no longer has faith in a diplomatic mission, they may force them to leave at any time.

20. Our country doesn't respect international law.
They don't want him to be heard, Americans might see that our government is trying to spread lies to go to war.

5. Since when do we take orders from Jerusalem?
This jerk wants us to trash the UN charter for his convenience.
And he's going to tell us who comes and goes in our cities?
That's about enough Israeli influence.
They're playing us pure and simple.
Enough!

16. Does Gillerman also object to the arrival at the UN
of the vicious dictators from Equatorial Guinea, Burma and Uzbekistan?

Apparently real genocide doesn't interest him in the least.
