Principal at drug-raid high school in S.C. resigns
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/news/archive/2004/01/05/national1804EST0681.DTL

The principal of a high school where police drew their guns on students and ordered them to the floor during a drug raid announced his resignation Monday.

"I realized it is in the best interest of Stratford High School and of my students for me to make a change," George McCrackin said in a statement.

McCrackin had asked Goose Creek police to come to the school after receiving reports of marijuana sales. Police said dogs sniffed drug residue on 12 book bags during the Nov. 5 sweep but found no drugs. No one was arrested, but some students were handcuffed for a time.

The raid led to allegations of excessive force and racism because many of the students at the school during the early morning raid were black. Police have said they felt the tactics were needed to ensure the safety of the officers and students.

it was probably in the best interest of the district's insurance carrier to make the change because you know they were going to get hit with all sorts of law suits

I still can't get over the pictures of that raid.

12. Great news, indeed.
We definitely do not need psychos like him in charge of our schools. I hope he does not find employment in another school. It was terrible judgment to terrorize those students, and he should suffer the consequences.

2. So the cops wanted to give the kids a taste of adulthood.
Show them what it'll be like once they're not students anymore.

Sheesh.

5. I think that it's in everyone's best interest that this guy spend a little
time on medication. Maybe some R&R in a place with padding on the walls. To have guns drawn on students and force them to lay face-down on the floor for a possible marijuana violation is absolutely ridiculous. At best, make them stand next to their lockers while they were being searched. But no guns, no way. Unless the police expected a big shoot out, in which event they need to change their viewing habits on tv and the movies. No more "COPS" for these guys.

6. I am going to say this.
It has been my experience that administrators at secondary schools are the worst bunch of people I have known. It wouldn't surprise me if he did orchestrate the raid. Furthermore, if he is to get hit with lawsuits, his resignation should not change a thing. He should still get hit with them.

9. Ever notice how jerks like McCracken never can come out and say
"sorry, I was wrong to do what I did"?
