Myanmar forces target protesters

Pro-government fighters in Myanmar have staked out streets in Myanmar's largest city as the country's military rulers aim to end demonstrations against price rises in fuel and food.

Up to 20 people were arrested in Yangon on Wednesday, where plain-clothes security officials and squads of men in trucks watched for protesters.

Su Su Nway, a member of detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party, took part in Tuesday's protest at a busy Yangon intersection, but escaped arrest.

"Peaceful protests are brutally cracked down upon and I want to tell the international community that there is no rule of law in Myanmar," she said.
