Wal-Mart to pay $3.9 million in back pay in California
Source: Yahoo news

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. agreed to pay more than $3.9 million to about 50,000 current and former employees in California who were underpaid overtime and other wages, the state's labor commissioner said on Tuesday.

The world's largest retailer also agreed to pay $198,900 in civil penalties to the state of California, Labor Commissioner Angela Bradstreet said in a statement.

In 2005, Wal-Mart voluntarily notified the labor commissioner that errors in its payroll processes had led to underpayment of overtime and other wages. It pledged to correct the problem and pay affected workers all they owed.

Wal-Mart officials were not immediately available for comment.

That's Bartcop's, what, second law?

$198,900 in civil penalties, now that's a fine that will make sure Wal-Mart doesn't screw up again.

How about a real penalty, like letting unemployed people beat the corporate officers to death?

7. Or putting their corporate officers
in a room with some of the thousands of women they've discriminated against over the years.

2. Is this today's raison du jour
for the continuing stock market downer?

Funny how when a company follows the law, its stock price goes down.

8. Yeah, really
This judgment is like you or I tossing out the change in our pockets.

Paying paltry settlements is factored as just the cost of doing business and the'll keep doing it.
