Gonzales to face ‘no confidence’ vote Monday
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The Senate will hold a “no confidence” vote on embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales this Monday, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-New York, announced.

In a statement released Friday, Schumer said if all senators followed their conscience, “this vote would be unanimous.”

“However, the president will certainly exert pressure to support the attorney general, his longtime friend,” Schumer added. “We will soon see where people’s loyalties lie.”

The attorney general is under investigation by Congress over last year’s dismissal of eight U.S. attorneys.

1. But not to worry! It's a non-binding resolution.
Just in case any of you might have started to fret.

4. Its purpose is to "test the waters". Schumer: "We will soon see where people’s loyalties lie.”
Edited on Fri Jun-08-07 02:55 PM by tiptoe
...and see which Senators are loyal to the American people (whom the Attorney General is supposed to serve) vs an anti-democracy "new world order" attempting to undermine the political independence of the U.S. Justice department.

Consider the vote a "test of the waters" for impeachment down the road.

22. If there is this much trouble getting attention to this on DU
there is no chance it will get any attention at all in corporate media.

The timing of this vote sucks. We are going to have a vote which does nothing and no one is going to know it even happened.

DC Dems need a media guru.

17. Hooray!
I hope this douche gets buried. As a contractor for the Department of Justice, it would be really nice to open a web browser at work and not be taken to a home page with a picture of a smiling Gonzales on it.

18. Will Bush be back from his European trip by Monday?
This vote could certainly take the wind out of any attempts at positive spin that Bushco would try.

19. Whythehell not impeachment?
They can do it, you know. And enough Repubs have had their fair-haired boys and girls dumped from USA positions that they might well go along with it.

23. So they're *finally* getting around to it?
Edited on Sat Jun-09-07 10:22 AM by Seabiscuit
And when will they ever get around to issuing the subpoenas to Rove, Meirs, Cheney and Rice that they keep talking about? When Bush is finally disconnected from his life-support system?

Haven't they "tested the waters" long enough to know they inhabit a swamp?
