President Bush Job Approval (33% Rasmussen)
Edited on Tue May-22-07 04:53 PM by RamboLiberal
Source: Rasmussen Reports

After three straight days at the lowest level ever recorded by Rasmussen Reports, President Bush’s Job Approval ratings slipped another point to another new low on Tuesday.

Just 33% of American adults now Approve of the way that George W. Bush is performing his duties as President. Prior to this past week, the President’s ratings had never slipped below 35% and had only reached that level for a day or two at a time. Now, his Job Approval has been at the 35% level or below for six straight days. (see comments on comparing Approval Ratings from different polling firms). Rasmussen Reports updates the President’s Job Approval ratings every day by noon Eastern.

The President’s ratings tumble each time immigration reform dominates the news because he loses support among his base—just 66% of Republicans now give him their approval (that matches the lowest level of support he’s ever received from his base). Even as the stock markets set new records, just 36% of investors approve of the President’s performance.

Only 14% of Americans now Strongly Approve of the way Bush is handling his duties. Forty-eight percent (48%) Strongly Disapprove (that is the highest level ever measured). Early in the second term, the number who Strongly Approved was essentially even with the number who Strongly Disapproved.

And 31% ARG:

Bush Job Approval Ratings Remain Unchanged

George W. Bush's overall job approval rating and the rating of his handling of the economy remain unchanged from April according to the latest survey from the American Research Group.

Among all Americans, 31% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 64% disapprove. When it comes to Bush's handling of the economy, 31% approve and 62% disapprove.

Among Americans registered to vote, 31% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 64% disapprove. When it comes to the way Bush is handling the economy, 32% of registered voters approve of the way Bush is handling the economy and 62% disapprove.

A total of 62% of Americans rate their personal financial situations as excellent, very good, or good, which is down from 78% in April, but like last month when ratings went up, Bush's job approval ratings have not moved with the economic ratings.

1. Keep the immigration bill in the news!!!!
That's your reason right there.

Having said that, it's a shitty bill that should be defeated.

2. I love that little blurb about the stock market...
..."Even as the stock markets set new records, just 36% of investors approve of the President’s performance."

5. Does that mean it's
25%? The mediawhores will do anything to pump that monkey up and does that include the pollsters?

8. Probababy way below 33%
Rasmussen is interesting for tracking trends, but they are very consistently about, I would say, somewhere between 3 and 9 points biased toward a republican point of view. For instance, compare
Rasm: http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/political_updates/president_bush_job_approval
as opposed to
PolKatz (average): http://www.pollkatz.homestead.com/files/bushindex.htm

That said, though, shrub's drop in May is, I think, QUITE SIGNIFICANT. Regardless of Rasm's bias (caused, I guess, by more conservative types likely to have the patience to complete a robo-call poll, plus Rasm. stuborn in underestimating the correction factors for repub versus dem), the TREND of shrub dropping 6 points since April and, in fact, 5 points since May 15 is quite unusual.

I'm skeptical, though, of Rasm's excuse that this is caused by immigration bill. My guess would be:
a: Comey testimony to Congress that EVEN ASHCROFT couldn't stomach these guys
and
b. Ron Paul pointing out, to lots of salivating, Kool-Aid intoxicated, bushies, that, in fact, there was VERY AMPLE WARNING that Al-Qaeda was planning catastrophic attacks, summer of '01.

Just my 2 cents from something of a poll junky.

7. The gas prices have something to do with it too
I'm sure of it. The decline in the percentage of Americans who rated their personal financial situation as good or better is probably tied, in part, to the gas price increases. I work at a food bank and the number of people stopping by at the end of the month for help skyrocketed the last time the gas prices went sky high.

9. You are so correct. See one of my favorite graphs:
(also polkatz):

Gasoline (inverted) versus shrub: They move together . . . Gas price goes up, shrub approval goes down.

10. Thanks! And Welcome! You're in NYC too?
I saw a gas station near my house in Queens advertising gas at $3.29.

12. Yes, NYC also
Don't own a car anymore, though. I guess I would be even angrier, if I had to pay 3.29 a gallon just to get to work!
