Ohio town joins about 60 others in wanting Bush impeached

OBERLIN, Ohio: The city council of the left-leaning college town of Oberlin, Ohio voted unanimously to ask Congress to begin impeachment proceedings against President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Oberlin, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) southwest of Cleveland, joins at least 56 other cities and towns across the United States, as well as the Vermont Senate, in approving such a measure.

"Ohio is a battleground for elections and this is really sending a strong message," Councilwoman Eve Sandberg said. "The people who took an oath to uphold our Constitution are not doing it and it's time we asked them to."

The council declared the measure an emergency, allowing the final vote to occur at its introduction late Monday. No one spoke in opposition. The measure's backers claim that Bush and Cheney intentionally misled Congress and the public about the threat from Iraq in order to justify a war.
