Stoughton Trailers Prepares For 1,100 Temporary Layoffs
Source: WISC Channel3000 (Yahoo News)

STOUGHTON, Wis. -- Stoughton Trailers has told state officials that it might soon lay off as many as 1,100 employees, WISC-TV reported.

The company contacted Wisconsin's Department of Workforce Development to give state officials a heads up. The layoffs will affect the company's facilities in Stoughton, Evansville and Brodhead, according to a letter faxed to officials on Monday.

The company's two Stoughton plants will be hit the hardest with 677 employees losing their jobs. The Evansville plant will have 134 fewer workers and 315 people will be without a job at Brodhead.

1. No demand for semi trailers? That's a bad signal for the economy
beyond Wisconsin. Is this because Mexican trailers are saturating US hauling or is retail really in such bad shape that Wal-Mart doesn't need more trailers to haul cheap junk from US ports to the heartland?
