California Senate fights RFID tracking for schoolkids
Source: The Register

California's state Senate has struck a major blow against the enemies of mankind in the inevitable war against The Machines.

Legislation approved Monday would prohibit public schools from requiring the implementation of radio-wave devices that broadcast students' personal identification and monitor their movement around campus — information the mechanical horrors could theoretically use to turn our children into livestock.

The bill was introduced by Democrat Sen. Joe Simitian and sent to Assembly on a 28-5 vote.

"The reason we have this level of support is it is a narrowly crafted bill, Simitian told the Associated Press. "We're dealing only with mandatory use that tells parents they don't get to be in charge of their kids' personal information."

In 2005, a small elementary and middle school in Sutter, California, attempted to implement an RFID program, but was promptly shut down amongst complaints by parents and a swarm of media attention.

7. They're already on cars.
Any auto with "OnStar" or similar can be tracked in real
time without alerting the driver; some actually allow
your conversations in the car to be monitored, should a
monitor choose to do so.

And many of us have already voluntarily equipped ourselves
with personal listening/tracking devices.
They're called "cell phones".

Then we can find out who they are sleeping with other than their authorized spouse.

Maybe what they ought to do is make sure only matching spouses can have sex with each other by setting up little buggers slipped into the skins. Those little buggers would report any violations to the other spouse and to the Salem Board of Sex.

6. Actually, they've started with pets.Owners want to protect and retrieve them if lost.Next will be...
...other loved ones who are vulnerable to being lost, like toddlers and old people with Alzheimer's. See how easy that is? No harm done at all.

In between -- and already being tested someplace (can't remember where, it was on the news one night) -- is workplace ID. It's just SO EASY to pass all those security devices in your high-tech workplace when you have this tiny chip implanted.

I regret to say that we Luddites are going to be a vanishing breed in another 20 years. Sorry, I don't like it any better than you do, but it's in motion.
