Proponents of medical marijuana won a landmark victory in the US yesterday when an appeals court ruled the US Government could not prosecute two women who used the drug for pain relief, nor could it prosecute their suppliers.

5. One of the most-ridiculous expressions of a wrong-headed policy.

Besides medical marijuana, there are other issues: (1) prohibition of hemp industry, a low-cost competitor for forest and fiber industries;
(2) prohibition of recreational use of a relatively-harmless substance; (3) intrusion into civil liberties; (4) widespread imprisonment, with major inequalities by race; and (5) obscuring messages against dangerous drugs by lying about marijuana and putting it into the same category.
