Iraqi police close newspaper for anti-U.S. article
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/4800937.htm

BAGHDAD, July 22 (Reuters) - U.S.-backed Iraqi police have shut a Baghdad newspaper and detained its office manager because of an article inciting action against the United States, the U.S.-led administration said on Tuesday.

The closure was made because of Al Mustaqila's story on July 13 entitled: "Death to All Spies and Those who Cooperate with the U.S.; Killing Them is Religious Duty", a statement by the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) said.

The move came as a press watchdog called on U.S. and British authorities to ease media restrictions and draw up liberal media laws to replace the straitjacket imposed by ousted leader Saddam Hussein.

Paris-based Reporters Without Borders criticised rules imposed last month by the U.S.-led authority in Iraq that make it illegal to incite violence.

3. Why does the headline read "Iraqi police" when it should read...
"US Soldiers" - the first line of the article says "US-backed", which would seem to be a euphemism...

6. "Rule of Law"?
... or rule by dictat and fiat? Where's the standard of public law in Iraq that legitimizes this closure? Where's "due process"? Just who is the plaintiff and what lawful standing does that (hypothetical) plaintiff have in Iraq?

8. you couldn't print that article here either..
it goes beyond just recomending resistance against the occupying power (which is perfectly legitimate if unfortunate since some of my best friends make up that power) it's an open call to kill anyone whose work brings them in contact with the Americans which crosses the line in my mind to incitement to murder.

9. So what would you do if the tables were turned
and there was a foreign occupation army in the US that was tellling people what they could and couldn't do, stealing the resources, and shouting in a foreign language at Americans and shooting them when they couldn't react?

12. "Same as it ever was..."
And you may ask yourself
Am I right?...Am I wrong?
And you may tell yourself
MY GOD!...WHAT HAVE I DONE?

Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money's gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.

Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...
Same as it ever was...Same as it ever was...
