McCain defends war in Spartanburg visit
Edited on Mon Feb-19-07 10:35 AM by Doondoo
Sen. John McCain gave a strong defense of the war in Iraq and later described in uncharacteristically personal terms how his religious faith was rewarded, during a campaign swing through Spartanburg on Sunday.

Hundreds crowded into the Sugar ’N Spice ice cream and hot dog shop to hear the Arizona senator, a front-runner for his party’s presidential nomination, blast wasteful spending and embrace the increasingly unpopular war in Iraq as a crucial struggle against terrorists.

“I believe if we withdraw from Iraq, they will follow us home,” McCain said. “This is a titanic struggle.”

1. How appropriate that he should use the word "Titanic."
It's a good foreshadowing of his campaign.

3. "You mean the insurgents and the Mahdi Army will load up on ships and come over to America?"
I wish someone would ask that question when a war supporter uses that stupid talking point! THEY NEVER EVER DO!!!

5. And the other question that's never asked
"So, you think the only way for the United States to relate to other countries is through our military? There's no other arm of our government, like say the State Department, though which we should conduct foreign policy?"

Good thing Maverick Johnny is here to give the "contrarian" stamp of approval to the bloody status quo. That's some straight talking!

6. Right. How are they going to get here? They can't even get out of Iraq
themselves!

4. If it's such a Titanic struggle, why doesn't he suggest the draft?

I am NOT advocating a draft. But what really chaps me is these moran(sic) war supporters, politicians and regular Americans, who yap about how these imperial wars are necessary, we have to fight them over there so we don't have to over here, etc.

If it's that big a deal, why not have a draft. Answer: because these same morans don't want to make any personal sacrifices. Let somebody else do it. :puke:
